Posticino Hout Bay

This cosy, unpretentious coastal spot will leave you smiling, your taste buds singing and your soul rejuvenated. A classic menu put together by someone who clearly has a passion for wholesome and flavorful Italian cuisine. Tuck yourself and your significant other inside for a lightly romantic evening or hang out on the deck with friends and family while sipping away on some delicious wine as the sun sets over the bay. No matter what, the awesome staff will make you feel special and the food will have you wanting to come back for more.

Basilico Restaurant

Reviewed By MertAdvisor

I have been going to Basilico for a while and it is really a lovely pizza place with plenty of seating and a good lunch special (significantly reduced price for 2 topping pizzas). Their pizza is thin and crispy, with plenty of quality toppings. Unfortunately I cannot recommend their pasta as they are just okay, nothing to write home about. Service is very inconsistent, very much waiter dependent. Sometimes it’s okay, other times the waiters are abrupt.

Sloppy Sam's

A small restaurant run by a friendly staff, serving quality and authentic "home-cooked" Mediterranean food in a rustic atmosphere. Located directly opposite the Protea Victoria Junction Hotel, de Waterkant, Cape Town, South Africa

Staying nearby decided to give it a try. The hummus starter was very watery, not a great taste. My wife’s lamb chops were excellent, cooked to perfection. The vegetables were over cooked and not warm. My chicken tikka kebabs came in a thin sauce which tasted of tikka but the chicken didn’t. Overall we felt a lack of attention to detail and will not return.

Mamma Roma

A proper Italian trattoria, run by a warm Italian Family; who’s hospitality and Italian flare fun through to their gracious and smiling staff. Fantastic menu - too many temptations that it took me ages to decide what to eat. As it was Italian I thought best to check out the pasta on my first visit (I’ll be back to work my way through the menu!). The carbonara was faultless- absolutely delicious and generous portions. Can’t wait to go back!

The Setting: The bistro is located within Klein Constantia vineyards, we visited in December 2018, the natural surroundings alongside luscious green gardens and perfectly manicured purple flowers created stunning dramatic views of the farm entrance. The Food: Simply spectacular. We were lucky on the day we visited there was a food celebration for what I believe to be South Africa's best: fresh seafood. I had a calamari starter and my partner had mussels with a gorgeous freshly baked farm bread to dip in the sauce. We both had the fish as a main, grilled to perfection: juicy and nicely cooked without being dry at all. The pièce de résistance was dessert: panna cotta. Sounds simple but it was executed beautifully, it evoked a summer in Italy but with a Turkish flair; a soft dash of cardamom, roses galore and pistachios, sweetened with honey farmed at Klein Constantia, it was a memorable signature dish created by their executive chef. The Wines: The sparkling is perfectly dry and crisp, of course their legendary Vin de Constance is the perfect way to re-live the grand history of this place alongside your dessert. The Staff: Jill was super attentive and cheerful, Jason was incredible. Those were the up-front faces we saw but I am certain everyone at The Bistro is great. The Bistro: Spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated. The shop is a must stop for a few bits and pieces to take back home.

We went to this restaurant on a whim, the guy doing our telephone booking was very friendly and efficient. However, that's where the good service ended. Arriving there the restaurant was packed, so we thought that this was the place to be. Wrong! The food is completely overpriced (fix your price range here please, it's much more expensive). You do not get what you pay for. The staff are friendly, but service is so slow. After ordering our mains, it took so long to come, and we thought it was because the restaurant was busy. However, looking into the kitchen, some staff were standing there eating while we were waiting for how long to get our food. Mains finally came, and what had to be a lovely pasta with Italian sausage, seemed more like a watered-down bolognese - and for a ridiculous price. We were asked about dessert, but by the time we could grab someone (not our waiter!) I was just ready to go home. Where was our waiter? Drinking tea and chatting with his buddy behind the bar. I will not recommend, unless you have lots of money to spend and don't know how to cook.

Voted BEST PIZZA IN AFRICA by 50TopPizza. Open every day of the week for lunch & dinner. We make amazing pizza plus daily specials, using only the best, mainly locally sourced ingredients, and the owners are always present to ensure quality & consistency.

Reviewed By Yendys

The pizza was good. I like a thin base. But is it better or the best in Cape Town? I doubt it. They benefitted from good publicity and I imagine many of the five star reviews are influenced by that. If you go, enjoy the pizza but keep off the starters or what they call Italian tapas because they are very unItalian and are characterised by heavy coverings of melted tasteless cheese. I notice the owner specialises in aggressive emotional responses to any review he doesn't like. That is not a good look so let me me remind him that pride comes before the fall and he should just accept good faith reviews whether they are good, bad or just average.Hi Yendy, thanks for your review. We have actually been voted Best Pizzeria in Africa, but i guess it is question of personal preference.I just want to clarify that out of 20 spuntini starters, only 3 are 'covered with melted cheese':- the melanzane parmigiana, - the Bomba: (morsel of artisan chorizo, soft focaccia, roasted garlic & mozzarella)- the Furia: oven baked caciocavallo cheese with oregano. A cheese lover's dreamin all of them we use proper artisan cheeses made by Puglia cheese in Cape TownWe have been operating since 2009 and have been appreciated long before this award was bestowed upon us.

Always one of our favourite breakfast haunts, Tashas has disappointed for 2 weeks running now. Firstly a usually chosen menu item was not nearly as good as usual (husband), secondly a favourite menu item has been removed from the menu and the nearest similar one was nowhere near as good. That was the first day. Second attempt, my daughter, having 'lost 'her first choice off the menu tried a new item. A wrap came as a flat, baked to hard brittleness disc, mimicking a pizza base, with too much raw red onion mixed in with the other toppings. Uggh too much raw onion in the mouth. Service was very very slow (restaurant was almost empty on a Monday morning early). Generally a drop-off going on here. Come on Tashas, pick up the happy place please.
