I visited Castlemaine in September 2013. When I called to Jack Duggans I was very disappointed, there was no atmosphere, the barman /owner was outside the bar drinking a pint and watching american X factor. The guinness was not very good. The only food available was re heated frozen pizza. The pub appears to have been redecorated sometime in the 70's and not touched since then. Unfortunately the village of Castlemaine suffers from the same lack of interest tourism which is a shame as it is an ideal location for exploring this part of kerry. We note your comments, unfortunetly as we painted the place some three months ago, im sorry it did not meet your taste. As of pizza we sell over 80 per week ,and are much liked, sorry we didn't meet your standard, our sales show there liking. Please call in the next time and we will rectify your problem,we again thank you

Myself and my better half love this place... its always a tossup between the pancakes with fruit, and their all day queen bee breakfast. The staff are very accomodating and friendly. They have a great selection of cakes and treats, also the lovely qwerky gift shop on your way through has lots to offer. We are always greeted with a smile! The cafe is very homely and always clean and tidy. We would highly reccomend a visit, as we do now on a regular basis. Keep up the good work and splendid food we are mighty impressed!

Pat's Cafe

Definitely a hidden gem! We stopped in Castleisland for lunch and entered Pat’s. It was very busy but right away we were greeted by Charlie & told there’d be a table in a few minutes. In the meantime, various customers offered us 1-2 seats near them. It was so nice. But within a few minutes, Charlie seated us together and our order taken. I had a delicious BLT, my husband had the vegetable soup with brown bread (my husband claimed it was the best brown bread he had in our travels through Ireland) & the other in our group had the Chicken Special wrap. All of us thought the food rated a “10”. Through it all, Charlie was in & out of the dining area making sure that everyone’s experience is perfect. Highly recommend!
