very dedicated cook... very good special food, menues and a la carde. prices are high but worth it. Situated quite "in the woods".... but you won´t regret the voyage. The cook also knows how to decorate the food, so the eyes get also something to see.

In the old market square of Deggendorf stands the Café Wiedemann. With inside and outside seating it makes this Café a pleasure to visit any time. Friendly staff and a good menu and some the best coffee make this a must.

Went there with friends and family... It was recommended to us by some friends. We actually planned to go there as my son who is a student at DIT in Deggendorf liked it very much himself.(his German is still not up to the notch as he studies in English)We had dinner and it was fun selecting our dishes as we had to use google pictures and translation to understand the menu, but that was really fun.The landlady also helped us and we had very delicious dishes which we couldn't finish so big the portions were.We had beer which was one of the best i have ever tried in my life!! You are in Germany!!! For sure I will come back to this restaurant in my next visit to Deggendorf.Will try to add some pictures as tripadvisr app does not allow to see all the pictures on my iphone.!

I was at Amalie with a business associate for supper. It was a wild guess, unprepared. The location is ideal. The square has an underground parking. We both ordered the NY steak, which was perfectly cooked to our order. Nice sides are included. The menu is also including a selection of French dishes, after all the restaurant is cataloged as "French" restaurant. Nica wine list and pro waitresses taking care of the guests

Rustikal, freundlich, manchmal auch grantelig, fast immer gut besucht: das ist DER OTTO in Deggendorf. Seit vielen Jahren ist der Otto eine Institution. Hier treffen sich Schüler, Lehrer, Studenten und Hochschullehrer...und auch die, die nichts mit Lehren und Lernen zu tun haben.

I found this place by chance. It was my first night ever in Germany; a business trip brought me to Deggendorf for a much too short stay. The Stadtplatz seemed like a good place to start, and I chose the Goldener Engel because it looked good Not speaking German myself, my waitress was wonderful by speaking English as well as she could (she knew enough and pantomimed the rest!), and then found a menu for me translated into English. She was able to recommend traditional fare I'd like and special beer. Her help was perfect.I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Food was hot, beautifully presented, plentiful and delicious. (I had a venison platter.) The special "cloudy" Arcobrau was so good I had to have another. A gentleman who had lingered at a table nearby with his friends came over and, in broken English, introduced himself and welcomed me to Deggendorf.I left after I, too, had lingered to soak in the ambiance. I left satisfied, full, happy and glad to have made unexpectedly made new friends. I may never have a chance to return to this part of the world, but I hope I do. I promise to enjoy another meal at the Goldener Engel if I can and hope this review might encourage someone else to give it a try.

We had an enjoyable and leisurely meal of Bavarian food in the outdoor courtyard area at the back.There are a variety of seating options inside, at the front and in the courtyard. The food was excellent, with an extensive menu (menus are avalable in English), an excellent wine list of German wines and, of course, beer.

This was our second visit to this restaurant at the historic town square in Deggendorf. In summer there is a large terrace at the town square and on a Saturday the farmer's market was just opposite complete with a cultural performance. Service is polite, fast and professional. We had the Duett of Donauwaller & Salmon and the Gnocchi with Mushrooms and parmesan. The portions were generous and the food was very tasty. Highly recommended restaurant in Deggendorf for all occasions.
