We stopped for a "quick lunch" on the way to the Languedoc wine region. Three hours later we didn't want to leave. The amuse-bouches were already better than 1-star Michelin restaurants that I have been to lately, and the experience only got better. The first course was molecular egg with seasonal vegetables - perfectly done. The main course was Pintade 3-ways. As expected there was excellent service throughout and wine recommendations were spot on!

Brasserie le Prieure

We first visited this restaurant in 2011, and loved it. We went back a second time and found it to be closed. We returned in 2012 and found them closed for their annual holiday. This year we contacted them in advance and arranged our holiday so as to be sure they were open. Frequented by lots of locals, and often very busy, we think this is the best restaurant near the south of the lake. A wonderful place for a very long lunch – especially weekdays when they have a set menu that is amazing value. There is always a genuine welcome, the food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is authentic. Booking is advisable if you want a table outside. English spoken. Closed most of August and every Sunday.

On our recent trip to France, we visited friends living in the Chambery area. They recommended this excellent restaurant to us. They offer several fixed price options with a soup/salad, entree, and dessert. Food is typical for the region and very well prepared. Service was excellent as was the value.

La Parfumerie

Three days ago we went for lunch at La Parfumerie Flacons et Saveurs. It is a new restaurant, opened since June 2016. It has this feel of enthusiasm, whne everybody is very motivated to make it a success story. We ate outside, on a doubel level terrace: pleasant but there is no view on the nearby lake du Bourget. We could have chosen a fixed price menu for 15 euros, instead went for the Carte and ate for around 32 euros each: a three course meal. I chose a four course meal consisting of dishes served in very small portions called "amuse bouche" for 8 or 9 euros each plus a normal size dessert. Every thing was fresh and sublte, with innovative combinations and an impeccable presentation, but the size of portions (not including my choices of amuse bouches) was overall smaller than we would have expected. We left without feeling full, not feeling hungry either, but ate all the bread that was brought to the table. For instance, the apricot coulis around the dessert could have been more generous than a few droplets, the julienne of vegetables more abundant, the size of the beef roast slices bigger.

What professionality in the staff serving at the tables! I almost bought a used car from the waitress managing the plateau de fromages - she expertly guided me through a choice of 20 magnificent local artisan cheeses, my real objective of the evening. Before that we appreciated the savoir-faire of the chef in a fillet of turbot accompanied by very good Savoyarde white wine. The check was probably adequate for the nice lake view, fresh air and high quality cuisine on offer

All fresh products with excellent natural taste. The owner himself does the cooking. Prices are reasonable. Wines are served by the glass. This restaurant is located in the centre of a nice town on the largest lake of France - Lac du Bourget. It can seat some 15 persons only. Of course the menu is limited which guarantees the owners concern about freshness. The good balance of the ingredients avoids digestion problems.

A regular visitor to Aix-les-Bains, we wanted to push the boat out so booked here for a family meal. Unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing. Service was slow but the staff pleasant and helpful if you could get their attention. Our starters arrived but no bread and we had to go and find a water to bring spoons for the soup! The main courses eventually arrived but they were cold or lukewarm at best. But the most surprising but disappointing thing was the complete lack of flavour exasperated by a lack of seasoning. We gave up in the end and didn’t bother with either desserts or a coffee because we couldn’t wait any longer! 2.5 hours for 2 courses!! We complained and did get 10% off the bill and the staff were apologetic. However, it was clear that there were issues - we were not the only ones complaining- but at no point were the staff proactive or apologising for the wait. It was only after complaining that they apologised. We would strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant in the future. We will certainly not return. Dear 748amandat,Thank you for taking time to share your experience. We are truely sorry to know that you didn't enjoy our restaurant. Please know that we apologise for this oversight which is totally exceptional. That's why we offered you a 20 % off the bill (not 10%). You should have noticed us your disappointment during your meal ; we could have tried to meet your expectations. Again, we are sorry for your bad experience and we remain at your disposal if you want to discuss with us.Best regards,
