Stayed in an apartment just up the road so it made sense to try the local chippy. We were not disappointed. The prices are slightly lower than those in the main town but the quality of the chips, fish and scampi that we savoured were on a par. This chippy has won many awards voted for by locals, which makes sense given its location away from the Main Street. But being itâs only a 5 minute stroll from the swing bridge give it a go you wonât be disappointed.
With so many fish and chip shops to choose from in Whitby its hard to know which one to pick but this was definitely a good find. We had scampi and chips with mushy peas and sat outside on the wooden window benches but there are a few tables inside as well. Chips were lovely and tasty and the scampi was crisp on the outside with nice large pieces of wholetail scampi inside, mushy peas were just like I remember my mumsâ! Good selection on the menu, calamari, cod, haddock and all the other usual things youâd expect also an option of a smaller portion of you need it. I would have no hesitation in coming back here next time Iâm in Whitby.

We had been told that the fish and chips were some of the best in Whitby so thought we would try it. They were very good. Freshly cooked to order so it wasn't sitting and going soggy. Portion sizes were good too. Definitely recommend this chippy!

We have visited the restaurant since it opened many years ago and have always had a food review for us but this last couple of years standard's have slipped eg portion control we ordered medium Cod meal deal it was just like a small meal deal yet the week before it was a good portion obviously a different chef portion control needs addressing you get better value from out sales if this happens again I will be going else where as this not the first time.

Really looking forward to this due to good reviews and it looks nice inside. Ordered a bottle of house merlot, I appreciate it is a screw top but it was not opened in front of us, just put on table with glasses. My homemade fish cakes were good, very small portion of chips. My partners cod tasty but small, very small portion of chips. Chilled bottle of tap water good. We were allowed in with our 2 dogs, a bonus. From sitting down to paying, 30 minutes, WOW. Too quick for us. Could not relax with wine. They gave us a top to take half of it away. I needed the loo before the 20 minute walk home. Were told to use the disabled toilet however, it is also the baby changing facility. A couple were changing a baby, it was taking longer than expected, and involved going back to the table for clean clothes. No fault of theirs, they kept apologising. I asked if I could use the ladies upstairs. Told no. So after 15 mins got to use the loo. I blame the restaurant for that. Will stick to my usual restaurants in future. So disappointed.

Called into the Greedy pig for a quick bite. The roll did its job and filled a hole. I had the suffing and apple sauce. It was all pleasant enough and no complaints from me. Grumpy Grandad was also content with what he had.

There's plenty of competition in Whitby for those who love their traditional fish & chips, but this one is right up there. Not in the most obvious/ prominent position, but fairly easy to find. The service and the food were spot-on. No complaints. And that little bit cheaper than some more famous places, such as Magpie Cafe.

Established in July 2017, Al Taco brings the taste of Mexico to the streets of Whitby. Sit in or Takeaway. All our food is locally sourced and freshly prepared. Our Menu Includes: Burritos Tacos Nachos Chilli Fajitas Burgers Mexican Flatbread Pizzas And l
Really tasty, freshly prepared food and all with a warm welcome. If youâre looking for a non fish and chip option and like Mexican food then definitely go here. Very reasonably priced too. Quite small inside so booking would be advisable. Takeaway also an option. Enjoy!

Staying at a cottage in Sleights it was inevitable that we would try this due to the excellent write ups. Arrived at about 7pm on a Saturday night and as expected, quite busy. However, service was friendly and quite quick. There is parking available both inside and on the road outside. The restaurant is licensed for those wanting to eat and I can confirm that the fish and chips were excellent. Not greasy like some and definitely worth a visit.
