7. Arnie's Dog House

Arnie's Dog House is an old time hot dog stand which sells hot dogs, Italian beef and Polish sausage and some other things, as well. There is plenty of parking and there is some seating inside at a counter, just like old diners. The menu board is above you and there is more than enough to choose from. The prices are reasonable. The hot dogs do come with fries. The staff was very efficient and nice.

It was a cold wintery night and I had business in Whiting. So I told my wife lets go get some sliders so we did! Just a great experience the young girl at the counter was a delight and I have to tell you the sliders were just like I had when I was a kid 60+ years ago, great! It is a historic landmark and I hope they keep it like it is! Good work girls!!! Best White Castle in USA!!! Worth a visit, there soda is not watered down was a walk down memory lane I remember when a burger was .12 cents. We love Whiting the Mayor Joe Stahura is one of the few democrats I would vote for, a good man needs recognition and Joe deserves it! The City is a diamond in the ruff. Lets keep our White Castle like it is Joe!

Yet another hidden gem in Whiting. Everything we have had here has been ~excellent~. Friendly staff that take your order at the counter. Generous portions. Entrees are arranged in a manner too cute for this oil town, but I love 'em. Pasta sauces are fresh and savory. Salads go way beyond the usual lettuce/tomato/onion. Chicken or Steak Sandwiches rock, "Wraps" are chock-full of chicken or steak "asada" or shrimp. The burgers: All Excellent. Grilled veggies are my go-to side dish. It's not that I don't like 'tots, either. Chicken enchilada soup, topped with sour cream hits the spot, too. I'd go on, but I'm running out of room. Drawbacks: A little small for lunch (even though many get carry-out). No beer. This is where I bring visitors from out of town if they don't like pierogi... =^)

Subway has been around for a long time and has grown on me.It's a great alternative to heavy home cooked meals. The sandwiches are light and fresh, and the franchise is very health conscience now thanks to Jared....keep doin what you doin Subway.....

after living away from Chicago for a while it was nice to get back to a white castle for my hubby but it is not and never has been my favorite food. Hubby enjoyed the burgers, I found the chicken sandwich too greasy and the place is ajoined to a gas station and did not feel in a very safe location

Zel's has great beef sandwiches...and their fries are always extra crunchy and awesome. Their horseradish sauce is amazing! I have never had any of their other menu items because I love their beef sandwich so much, but my kids like their burgers and hot dogs too.

I love the shrimp from Bob's. I don't like a lot of batter so if you not want that ask for it to be fried light. That means it won't have too much batter and not be overfried. I like my shrimp a little firm not soft and soggy. And they were perfect. Besides, unless you eat them right away they will steam in the packaging. If you are unsure just ask and they will cook it the way you like. Everytime I go to G.I. this is my new go to. Keep in mind they are closed on Mondays.
