Somerset West (Afrikaans: Somerset-Wes) is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa. Organisationally and administratively it is included in the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. It is situated in the Helderberg area (formerly called Hottentots Holland), about 50 kilometres (30 mi) east of Cape Town central city area, and 10 kilometres (6 mi) from Strand. The town is overlooked by the Helderberg (meaning "clear mountain"), a part of the Hottentots-Holland range of mountains. Taking friends to lunch we arrived at this beautiful winery to experience an excellent tasting room for both wine and olive oils, with charming and knowledgeable staff. The restaurant position overlooking lawns and lake are beautiful, and the food is excellent with of course an excellent selection of varietal, locally produced wines. Well worth a visit.

I visited the restaurant with my 2 daughters after viewing Lourensford as a wedding venue. The setting is beautiful. The staff welcomed us to the restaurant, even though they had not yet opened for business. We enjoyed delicious food, catering for the pescatarian and the vegan in our group. Had a Family breakfast celebrating my Birthday!The staff were very good and tentative, breakfast choices were great, with a huge selection. We visited this fantastic scenic restaurant from the year it was opened and had this year again a fantastic evening there. We all have chosen the tasting menu , 8 courses and another four amuses. i will not elaborate about the different courses as they change it regularly. But the way it was served and the quality of all of them was perfect. When you are in the region do not forget to go here.

With a choice of many Restaurants around our B & B in Somerset West Cape my husband booked at Steffanie's The food and service was outstanding the attention to detail wasamazing. I ordered the half portion of chicken linguine ( whichI could barely finish ) my husband ordered the Salmon linguinefull portion and cleaned his plate . I had to keep space for pudding ! which was the baked cheesecake with berry coulisthis is really a must very creamer and light. Will certainly be back to try some of the Black Board Specials on our next visit.

We booked a table for lunch,due to the cool weather we sat inside and could'nt really enjoy the view.We all found the waiter, David, strange. No interaction on such a vast menu. When my husband ordered 2 starters as his main meal,he quite obnoxiously said " both at the same time? " We were one of 3 tables so he had all the time in the world to try and interact with us.Our meals were OK, I had kingklip with artichokes served on a saffron veloute.The tinned artichokes were placed on top of the kingklip with no infusion of flavour. Generally a bland meal. The vegetable roulade was described as, not fresh.The thai mussel starter was good and the lambs kidneys with gnocci was delicious.There was no management on the floor to communicate with,the ambiance quite dull.with so much competition in the area, I would not return.

We had a superb evening here! We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Was really very good. My husband had the vegetarian option which looked amazing and he really enjoyed it! He isnt a vegetarian!! The staff were very friendly and attentive. Each course was beautifully presented! A must!

We like the unpretentious setting, atmosphere and decor of Henri's. Plus the fact that the food is consistently good, so it's never a difficult choice when we decide on the spur of the moment to go out instead of eating in. Having not eaten at Giovanni's for a number of years, we decided to go there again tonight. I must be honest, it was average. I had the kingklip with rice and a side of veg (butternut, beetroot and green beans). The kingklip was just okay, the rice was VERY al dente and the beetroot had a taste I cannot quite pin-point. I suspect that the idea behind the beetroot may have been sweet and sour, but I cannot be sure. In short, the quality was not what I remembered Giovanni's to offer.My husband had a sirloin. He said it was closer to well done than medium. His general impression was also that the meal was just okay.Our waiter was very friendly and I have no complaints about the service.All in all, I would say that our evening was average. I am not sure, given the options in and around Somerset West, that I will be back.

The setting is beautiful, if you have a young extended the youngsters can explore and play on the grounds, seems pet friendly. The service is professional and charming, the food was exquisite and the wine crisp and cooled.A stroll around the farm after lunch had many interesting surprises. Strongly recommended.We appreciate the review and your description of the added extra's one can experience when dining at the Camphors Restaurant.
