We have had a holiday home in Confolens for many years, and generally speaking we've avoided any British Abroad establishments - until our French daughter-in- law discovered Nick and Mary's lovely tea shop/coffee shop/café on the banks of the Vienne, right by the old bridge. Picturesque, relaxing setting and perfect home-made cakes, with a very welcoming atmosphere summer and winter alike (they do take a well deserved break between Christmas and Easter) Arts and crafts are on display indoors, and outside there are interesting bits of sculpture and sometimes activities going on. Well worth a visit.

If you want to go to Esse for a menu du jour please book a table.Three courses for 12.70.There is no wonder you cannot get a table at lunchtime.The food is exceptional.The staff are so polite and efficient.This is our favourite restaurant for lunch.Absolutely amazing.Please go and try it.

Recommended by a nice man we met in the village. We went for the plat de jour. Was really nice fish and apricot tart. Lovely terrace to sit with a cool breeze and beautiful view.
