I'm surprised to see that I'm the second person to rate this place. Not surprising I guess - you can only access this place after a 30 min. hike uphill.Hoch Eppan castle sits on a mountain with a spectacular view of Bolzano in the plain below. To get there, you park your car in a small parking lot somewhere on the way up and start walking. It is quite steep so this is only for the fit and able. Once you arrive, it will all be worth it!The castle ruins have been turned into a open air tavern or Burgschenke. The owners who also live up there, tend to the place with great care. So beautiful. You can enjoy simple, defty South Tyrolean specialities and wine in the garden under shady vines. Everything we tried was good. The hit must be the dessert called Strauben. A thick pancake batter is piped in a circular motion into hot oil. Once fried, it is topped with powdered sugar, apple compote and lingonberry marmelade. You are supposed to pull off pieces with your fingers to eat it - an oily affair. Luckily you expended enough calories while walking up the mountain to allow you to indulge! As all the food has to be carted up the mountain, don't be surprised that things are a bit more expensive up here.On the grounds is a little chapel with wall paintings. A guide will explain these to you for a small fee. If you have more time to spend, there is an archery trail which takes you into the woods around the castle. You rent a bow and arrows and have to shoot various objects along the trail.All in all, a fun day out and definitely a must on a visit to Caldaro and the region.Note: they are closed on Wednesdays.

Very well-known, largely appreciated and very nice restaurant located just under the bell tower ("campanile") of the Darfo main church. Recently restructured and extremely well-kept. Particularly comfortable for pairs, small groups or families withoud kids (it can be boring for the youngest...). Food is simply excellent. Most likley, the best food you can have in Darfo/Boario area. Try the mixed-salami appetizer and the the "smoked" mussles, for example. I had a "filetto" and my wife had a portion of rice with mushrooms. Both were simply fantastic. The "campanile" serves a very good pizza, as well, but I think you should avoid it. You can have very good pizza in every single tiny village in Italy so you will not regret it. Try the real food instead. Try the cakes, as well. They are quite creative and very tasty. Even the coffe is very good and served with style. The "campanile" is not cheap but not even particularly expensive. We had two appetizers, a filetto, a rice with mushrooms, three cakes, a bottle of very good white wine and we spent a little less than 100 â¬. Expect to spend between 35 and 50 ⬠each for a full course dinner. The staff is extremely professional and friendly. You will feel at home and you will not regret any dollar spent here.

We loved the place from start to finish. The ox ravioli was fantastic. We had steak as well that was brought out with 3 different gourmet salts, one had a smoke flavor that was so good we asked to see the package so we could buy some on our own. Another salt was large white flakes that also had a great flavor.thank you so much, hope to see you soon

Premise: as for the title, you have to swallow the fact that the place applies prices more suitable for a central-Rome/Milan/Florence location, than a city lost among the Alps.Said that, we asked for typical main courses and we appreciated the taste and the presentation; even the service was appropriated, so the wine's menu, which presented some local and very interesting products.And the check always come at the end: here it was accompanied by the bitter taste of a delicious (and free) licorice liquor shot... just for you to be more comfortable with the bill...
