I don't like walking into places I can't see inside, but I wanted to get some Georgian food as I'd recently worked in Georgia for two months. Like many restaurants in Georgia and Ukraine it is downstairs in a cellar (others are often upstairs). Perfect filling food for a cold February day. I had the Kharcho soup, an Kachapuri, an Adjarian Khachapuri (hadn't had one in Georgia, a very stodgy meal in itself) and the home style potatoes - friend potatoes with onions and herbs that I find excellent everywhere in Georgia (and the Ukrainian equivalent). Plus a perfectly reasonable mass produced German or Czech style Eastern European lager. Had I been staying longer I would have tried some of the modern style Georgian wines.

We're visiting this place when we're walking around Khortiza. Quite picturesque place with folk pop music and friendly staff. We're ordering only desserts with tea or compote though. Everything is fresh and tasty.

I visited Usaty Krolik with my friend. She is a vegetarian, so she was happy to see a vegetarian option in the menu. They have also breakfast, for sure I want to try in the future. Wine list looks very poor, but if I understand right itâs typical for this city. Staff was good and take care about us. The restaurant is small and quaint, specializing in Ukrainian food. What I found nice was the option of a family room which is closed off from the rest of the restaurant for a quiet family dinner. Service was good and the food, if you have a taste for Ukrainian cuisine, was good.

This is a nice restaurant in a very special building. There are also tables outside, popular with smokers even when the weather is chilly. But I got a table inside on the second floor. The interior is very nice, and the waitress spoke good English. I ordered an avocado salad which was very good, and after that a dish with pork which was nothing special, but not bad either. The problem was the wine. I ordered a glass of one of the most expensive wines that was served by glass. However it tasted like the bottle had been open a very long time, alternatively the bottle was not good. When I told this to the waitress she just told me that the wine is fine, without taking notice of the problem. I was not interested in making a fuss about it, so I just drank my mineral water and left the wine. But I will not return to this restaurant. Unfortunately some restaurants in Ukraine still have a long way to go before they achieve good customer service.

We dined here in January: fast service, accomodating waiters - and apparently a great chef! The cooking of three meals took around 30 minutes, but it was well worth the wait! Beef medaillons with potatoes stuffed with vegetables were amazing! My wife ordered a steak (we're both zealous meat-eaters) and enjoyed it thoroughly. The dessert wasn't so great, but in the meat department "Traktir" is both great and affordable. The interior might seem a bit mismatching and even pretentious, but it does the job of creating an atmosphere of an early XX century Russian tavern. All in all, I definitely recommend this restaurant for those who enjoy a juicy meat steak!
