A beautiful, old building with an amazing view over Merano and the valley. It would be the perfect place for a light lunch or a drink. Sadly it is grossly overpriced. Admittedly I have only had a tea, but at over 5 Euro, I thought that adding a pastry would have been just extravagant. Yes, it was a loose leave tea and it even had a minute biscuit, but still..........

We celebrate my father's 75th birthday at Trenkerstube Restaurant in Hotel Castel last May. The settings are very nice and the staff is very professional. Food was excellent and everyone in our party was pleased from start to finish. A welcome place from the bustling and touristic via Portici. The spaghetti (al dente!) and the mussels (cozze) were delicious, also the tomato, feta (with some other ingredients) salad was nicely presented and prepared! Service was courteous and friendly! - a very positive surprise were the washrooms/toilets!

We've returned here this year. We compared this restaurant with other ones we passed walking, this one had a signigicant larger menu.For the kids, there was Kaiserschmarren - lovely pancakes. We had a pasta and a plate of local meats and cheeses. Lovely.
