Revisiting, the St Helena is as good as ever. We all voted the amuse bouches, our choice of starters and our main courses outstandingly delicious and beautifully presented. The goats cheese starter comprised layers of whipped goats cheese, basil, roasted peppers, filo pastry and avocado with beetroot puree and carrot crisps; the haggis and corned beef hash starter came with potato galette, fried duck egg, black pudding crumb, English mustard and tomato chutney. Wonderful combinations, full of different flavours and textures. Our main courses of fillet steak, lobster & fish, and pasta were equally exceptional. We all rated them as distinctly superior to those served at another renowned (but more pretentious) restaurant. The St Helena is an elegant house, and the waitresses were all friendly, helpful and smiling. Our one regret was that the noise level from tables around us made conversation difficult.

Wow, what can I say? I organised a surprise evening buffet to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The food was amazing, delicious and plentiful, and they catered so well for my vegetarian and vegan friends. I wanted to eat out for lunch while in Harpenden so on a friends recomendation drove out to Harpers The staff was exceptionally friendly and constantly smilling and joking with one another a sure sign that this was a happy place with an understanding owner/manager. The food was good and service quick. highly recommended
