Roux 61 Seafood & Grill

Gumbo is amazing - dark roux and lots of shrimp. I ordered the large salad with oranges, pecans, etc. and split a bowl of gumbo with my husband. No need to order grilled shrimp on the salad because the gumbo was full of goodies!

This restaurant is located in the Guest House we stayed at in Natchez. We are often a little skeptical about the quality of restaurants associated with hotels. The first night we ate dinner there for convenience mostly, after the Front desk manager at the Guest House said their wraps are delicious. My husband and I both got chicken wraps with some kind of sauce (it was something like swarma sauce). The wraps come with a choice of two sides; I chose the house salad with feta cheese and roasted vegetables. Everything was delicious, with lots of fresh ingredients. It was so good that we went back the next night for dinner. This time we both got something called moussaka (though it was spelled differently than that.) It was pieces of roasted eggplant with a tahini sauce on top and little toasted pita pieces; it came also with the choice of two sides. The moussaka was delicious! As part of our stay at the Guest House, we got to eat there for our breakfasts as well. The food was freshly prepared; the bacon was perfectly done; the fruit salad choice was very good. The service was very fast. If we were in Natchez, we would definitely go back to Farrah’s again.WOW!!! Thank you so much for the detailed review! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and your dining experiences while at The Guest House!

We really wanted fried chicken and a server at another restaurant recommended the Pilot House. The menu offered 3 pieces of chicken, rice with gravy and green beans. Sounded like a winner to us. The chicken was quite good, crispy, flavorful and hot. The two sides were pretty terrible. The brown gravy on the rice had absolutely no taste. Even Franco-American beef gravy has some flavor. The green beans were obviously canned French-style green beans. The cook added some salt pork and then cooked the you know what out of them until they were a gross gray-green color. For dessert we had the Pecan pie and it was good, warm, gooey and served with a scoop of praline ice cream. The ambiance is nice and the view of the river is really lovely.

First let me explain my wife and I had driven 7 hours the day we choose to have dinner at this restaurant. We were very hungry and would have been satisfied with only average food. However it started badly from the moment we walked in the door. The owner or a manager was standing talking to a customer purchasing pastries from the case in the lobby. We stood there for quite some time some without ever being acknowledged. Finally I asked her if there was anyone to seat us. To which she replied she would get someone. Finally the assigned person came to usher us into the dinning room. She assigned us a table by the wall, although I had asked to sit by the window. Then off she went never to be seen again. We sat there for another ten minutes or more before a waitress poked her head around the corner. The waitress came to the table and apologized profusely for the wait saying no one had told her we had arrived. We ordered the large fried seafood platter, and seafood gumbo. After approximately 20 to 30 minute wait she came back to tell us the cook had misplaced our order and he had only just begun to prepare our meal. Now you are probably asking yourself " Why did you not leave at that point ?" Because we had driven all day and figured by the time we found another restaurant our food would have been ready, so despite our anger we would save time by simply staying where we were. Finally the food came, the seafood gumbo was pretty good, but the oysters, shrimp, fish, and yes even the french fries were terrible. Each item tasted terrible ! It was probably the oil they were cooked them in, but they were not good, they were really bad. The hush puppies were even under cooked. All in all a terrible meal.I asked our waitress if she would comp my two beers. She came back and said they would deduct the price of one seafood gumbo appitizer from our bill. When I checked the bill item for item, to add insult to injury, they had indeed deducted one seafood gumbo but had charged me for two of my beers at full price, DESPITE the fact it was Happy Hour and I should had received two beers for the price of one. What a nightmare. Our waitress Elaine was as pleasant as could be and did all she could to make up for the terrible food, and our lost order.I wish I had gone to McDonalds !We cannot tell you how much we appreciate this information. Unfortunately, we have found out that we have problems with night shift and we are working very hard to figure out who and what is the issue because there will be repercussions. We work so hard to keep problems like this from happening and now we ask for your help. If you would, please contact us at [email protected] and describe the person at the pastry counter and when and what time you visited. We are so sorry about your experience at Johnnie Mae's.

If you are visiting Natchez, Mississippi, whether you are staying overnight at Monmouth Mansion Inn and Gardens or not, you have to make reservations to dine at Monmouth's charming and traditional Restaurant 1818. It is antebellum dining in the original men's and ladies' parlors in one of the South's grandest houses, adorned with authentic period crystal gasoliers. It is a page out of Gone With The Wind, an evening with Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. Open from 5:30 to 8:30 Tuesday through Sunday, Restaurant 1818 is intimate and elegant with impeccable service and exceptional cuisine. My wife and I started with Gulf shrimp cocktail, chicken and sausage gumbo and Caesar salad with grilled chicken. For an entree, my wife had Gulf grouper with tomato butter sauce. I had a grilled bone-in pork chop with mashed potatoes and sauteed green beans. For dessert, we shared a slice of Bourbon pecan pie with chocolate ganache and a plate of white chocolate bread pudding with Bourbon praline sauce. Rhett and Scarlett never ate so well.

Friends and I had lunch at Cotton Alley on our recent visit to Natchez for the Fall Pilgrimage. The salads were excellent with the house garlic creamy vinaigrette dressing. Also had the grilled chicken breast with sautéed vegetables. The veggies were very tasty, but the chicken was a bit overcooked and a little tough. The plates passing by us looked great. The desserts are made in-house and looked super good...too full to eat dessert tho.
