This cafe has easy access & parking with seating outside which is pleasant. The coffee is nothing special- compared to Wellington coffee, and the blueberry muffin I ordered was seriously nuked when it arrived. It had the strangest side flavour- something fishy almost & my husbands date scone had that flavour too. I suspect they used old vanilla flavouring. Service was slow- slow to take the order & slow to arrive with the food. There was a good range of options available for breakfast but we didn't try them. Wouldn't go there again.

Our friend always goes here when in Taupo.She took us there yesterday and I can see why she does.A big cheerful hello when you enter the shop.followed by great service and food.I ordered seafood chowder and when it arrived I wanted it a bit hotter and the owner came out with a thermometre and said it was the right temp He was quit amused when I said I like my soup very hot and it was no trouble for him to crank up the temperature for me.Mate as Arny said Ah will be Baaaack

Some members of our group went here for lunch while wandering around Taupo. The place had a good variety of lunch options, though they weren't particularly cheap, and plenty of room for our large group to sit. Service was pretty efficient and the mushroom sandwich I got tasted good.

Popped in just for a hot chocolate as Iâd already decided where to eat lunch. Hot chocolate was delicious, just what I wanted. The staff were kind and helpful, and didnât rush me out after Iâd finished. Excellent free WiFi too. Iâll be back for their sandwiches another day!

Cafe 99 is quite expensive ($50 for breakfast and drinks for 2 people) but it's one pricey place that I returned to multiple times. Their hot chocolate (my drink of choice) can come in MaSsIvE cups :) and it's made with good ingredients, not just swiss miss in water. Also, I brought my own mug and they gave me .50 off so cheers to that! Fair-trade coffee. Both my friend and I fell in love with their Fun-Guy dish (the potatoes and sauce are amazing!) Staff is very lovely :) with a special shout out to the young English girl

Have always been a fan of Zest and see I wrote a very positive review in 2015. Have to say I was disappointed this time. Havent been for some time as these days they are not open on the weekends. Coffee still excellent but I was disappointed to get frozen hashbrowns, supermarket bread and half a large hard winter tomato. I expect a good cafe (and for the prices charged), to have vine tomatoes, decent bread and homemade hash-browns. My husband had an over ooked poached egg, not something we've ever had there. Here is hoping next time it will be back up to standard.

We stopped here for breakfast, unfortunately itâs school holidays and was rammed with kids. Environment was far too noisy for me, as Iâm deaf & talking to my wife was made very difficult.Had the big breakfast, which was lovely, but could have been hotter. Most items on the plate were warm at best.Still, it was delicious, as was the coffee (flat white with soya milk).

Highly disappointed in this establishment after reading such great reviews. We had a late lunch here and found the food to be incredibly disappointing. Soup was nondescript and the risotto was gluey. Neither dish was served hot. Service was hurried and not friendly. Dear WaggaTraveller,Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Positive reviews make our day! But if we've ever fallen short we need to know so that we can improve. I am very sorry that this was your experience in our cafe. 'Gluey' and 'nondescript' aren't words we want to read anywhere near our dishes. This winter season our soups have been super popular and the risotto always receives praise from diners (even Italians), so I'm confused and concerned as to why they were so poor on your visit. Not to mention lukewarm (completely unacceptable). I wish that customers would inform our staff immediately if the food isn't good enough so that we can remedy the situation there and then. However, if you found your servers unfriendly and occupied elsewhere, maybe this is why you didn't bring it to their attention. I have a great team of hard-working and caring staff, a couple are new though so I'm hoping that it was simply shyness and them getting used to their new job as the reason for the service not being attentive enough. Clearly I need to go over training with them so that they are friendly and approachable servers who will not only be easy to question if something is amiss, but also observant enough to notice if a customer isn't enjoying their meal. Please accept my apologies. I don't want anyone leaving our cafe with anything less than a big smile and happy stomach. I will address every issue you have mentioned including more training with both front of house and kitchen staff, so that no one finds our food ordinary or our service cold. I do hope you will give us another chance in future.
