I am not saying that the food is the best in the world, however, it is very good the fish being exceptional. What makes for a great experience is the quality of the staff including chef which all obviously emanates from the Management. Highly recommend. We were looked after by Kath and Ryan and as always special consideration given to my 93 year old Mother. Kath excels in that besides her hospitality skills has obvious expertise including the Heimlich manouevere which is good to know considering a stick in the thoroat experience recently. We booked Auberge Du Lac after a friend had bought me a gift voucher for a 3 course lunch there. From start to finish the service was amazing & they went out of there way to help me as my leg was in plaster. All 3 courses were so delicious & we were also bought out bread & butter & some delicious canapés made by the amazing chef. We sat outside to eat to admire the view which was great apart from the wasps which isn’t the restaurants fault. We would definitely recommend this restaurant & would definitely go back again. Hello 698lindsayrThank you for the glowing review and pleased to hear we have made a great impression! We will pass your comments to the team and we hope to see you again soon.Warm Regards,Auberge du Lac

Although we have dined at The White Hart in the past, this was our first visit since the refurbishment. It was an impromptu private lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary, before a family party two days later. I was hesitant when I read the Tripadvisor description which says that the restaurant serves "light lunches" but I telephoned and was assured that the Tripadvisor description was wrong; the same menu applies to lunch and dinner. The restaurant was not busy (in fact, it was nearly empty) and we received a warm welcome and efficient, pleasant whilst unobtrusive service throughout from Ellen. My wife is wheat intolerant so a lot of the menu was 'out of bounds' but there was still enough to choose from. The food was excellent and beautifully presented.Would I go again? Yes. Would I recommend it to friends? Yes.Wow, thank you for leaving such a humbling review! Our team are always so honoured to help guests celebrate their special day, and it appears we have made a positive impression since your last visit. I shall pass the feedback on to Ellen, who will be delighted you had such an enjoyable experience. Thank you again for taking the time to leave this review, and we look forward to welcoming you (and possibly your friends) back in the future!Thank youAdam

This is a difficult and strange review to do because so much of the offering is very good. Also, I don't do reviews becasue they are generally for people with far too much time on their hands. However, I am doing this because the shop is worth my time to attempt to improve the customer experience. The fish and chips are exemplary and the chef (stubble, been there for years) takes great care and pride in producing a quality product. When you eventually get served the customer experience is ok. The thing that never fails to irritate is the complete and utter blanking of customers as they enter the shop. You stand around for what seems like an eternity with staff making no eye contact whatsoever with no acknowledgement of your existence. This week I stood for 15 minutes. There were not many in the shop. Rather than get annoyed I just stared at the staff waiting for some sign that I was not an alien. None was forthcoming. When the assistant accidently caught my gaze whilst returning to the counter she immediately looked away. It is as though they know that they are not communicating and are embarrassed by it. I have lost count of the number of times people in front of me have become annoyed and left the shop without buying. It happens at least 50% of the time that I visit when there is a queue. What they need to do is manage expectations. The cop out sign that is displayed in the shop saying that there may be a wait and that great fish and chips take time is simply not good enough. What needs to be done is not rocket science. Simply, as a customer joins the queue they should be greeted. They then should be informed whether anything that is currently cooking / cooked is available and then asked what they want. If it is not available the customer should be told that it will be 5/10/20/30 minutes or whatever until their food could be ready. Manage expectations, don't allow people to steam. If you did this I would come more often and your shop would not get so many walk outs. You are in a customer facing business. Please learn the rudiments of customer interaction.

Visited in late afternoon with two aduts and two young children. Place was virtually deserted and nobody came to show us to a table for several minutes (I think the only waiter / server was on the phone). It's a gastropub rather than a restaurant; wide-ranging printed menu and well-presented food. Very good for young children, with high chairs available (though the waiter apologised for having run out of crayons with the child's menu!) - the three-year-old loved the docor with models of taxi, steam locomotive, motor bike, fire engine etc around the walls.

Went for a family meal having previously enjoyed the food at The Candlestick. Sadly the day we visited the chef must have been having an off day. The fish and chips were soggy and greasy, the peas dry and shrivelled. The veggie lasagne was heavy and uninspiring. It's always embarrassing leaving food on the plate, but it was just so hard to finish such a disappointing meal. I felt bad recommending it. I know The Candlestick can do much better.
