A good place for a bit of sushi, but equally not anything too special that I would go out of my way for.

Kimchi was the restaurant chosen for dinner during a recent overnight stay in Hope. Located a few, short blocks from our lodging, daughter and I walked up to the restaurant earlier in the day, to peak inside, confirm business hours, etc. â we liked what we saw, and decided it should be given a try.We (threesome - senior couple & daughter) arrived at the restaurant shortly after 5 pm - several tables were occupied - we chose one by front window (it was bright & cheery, and away from the direct and rather strong A/C vents overhead the inside tables). Once settled in, menus, and mugs of tea were brought to our table. What was ordered and shared: (descriptions as per listings in menu)- Appetizers: Agedashi Tofu (deep fried tofu, w/green onion, seaweed, teriyaki sauce) â Tempura (4 pieces of veggie, and 2 pieces of prawn).- Kimchiâs Korean Dish Special: Bulgalbi (marinated cut short rib, served w/miso soup, rice, and salad)- Noodles: Chicken Yakisoba (pan fried noodles with chicken & veggies)- Rolls: California rollTo say the least - a big yum! decent presentations, and very tasty/flavourful preparations. Ok .. I was a touch surprised!! but heh, I truly-enjoyed all the dishes ordered. And I know it wasnât just me, as âweâ cleaned all the plates!! The dishes offered some nice textures, tasty sauces, and some very distinctive flavours. Nothing was overcooked - and that included the noodles, short ribs, and veggies. Kimchi â we much-enjoyed our visit!!

Have enjoyed stopping at this friendly old style Cantonese/Western restaurant. They have over 300 types of tea as well. I almost always order the Wor Wonton Soup. Their wontons are tasty and they cure their own BBQ pork which is very lean. The menu has a lot of the Chinese-Western favorites that used to be prevalent throughout small town BC and Alberta. Worth the stop before you continue your journey.

We chose Golden Star for our first dinner during a recent 2-night stay in Hope. The restaurant was located almost directly across the street from our lodging, and after more than enough driving to/from/and around during the day, it was picked as our choice for dinner.Golden Star has a rather large menu of various a-la-carte and âcombination-typeâ offerings, plus, a small, all-you-can-eat buffet setup (w/hot and cold offerings). After settling into a side wall table, we walked over and checked out the buffet. The offerings looked ok, and while there, we watched one of the kitchen staff refill a couple of trays. We opted for the buffet. The food: presentations of most of the main course dishes, sides, salads, desserts, et al, looked good, but subsequent tastes sure proved looks can be deceiving, most preparations were below ok. We each made the initial mistake of taking too much during our first pass of the offerings. Now what? more of the same? We tried, but gave up rather quickly. Especially sad for me, even the ice cream, which I usually enjoy after such a meal, was of such a poor quality it did little to take thoughts and tastes of the previous offerings away.We chose Golden Star for dinner, and left being more than just a little disappointed.
