Mineral Restaurant

I like to frequent local diners, getting a home cooked meal, with friendly service, and a bit of local color. This diner had a typical warm and crusty feel. We were greeted and seated quickly and our waitress was the right amount of attentive. But the food ....I call the meal I had “food as fuel.” Beef that was dry with gravy out of a can and mashed potatoes out of a box. Absolutely nothing fresh. The only high point was a salad my travel companion had. It was unimaginative, but was fresh. Next time through Mineral, I’ll be stopping at one of their pizza places.

Pirates Cove - The Cove at Lake Anna

Reviewed By Madmaggie42

We decided to try the Cove for dinner on a Saturday night. They were understaffed, but the waitress tried her best. I have a couple of food allergies and ordered accordingly. The kitchen chose to completely ignored my order, slathered my plate with mashed buttered potatoes and soggy veggies, then placed my perfectly good steak on top of it. I didn’t want to waste the steak, so I grabbed an appetizer plate for the meat and sent the soggy slop back. After a few attempts, they finally gave me the correct sides. Unfortunately, I ended up having an allergic reaction to the butter anyway. Needless to say, I won’t return. Their disregard for those with allergies is obvious. I can’t take that risk again.

Joejoes superheroes and pizza

Reviewed By PUMBRIDGE

If you had to sum up American 'mom and pop' diners in one visit, you'd head to Joejoes, or Joe Joes or Joe-Joes or Joe-Joe's... the signs are as bewildering as a 3am tweet from the president. This is a friendly, homely, distinctive, individual little eatery in the middle of the sleepy little hamlet of Mineral. And we loved it! The food and drink is standard fare, but when you get chatting to Joe himself - a chatty mountain of a man - and his ever-so-sweet mother-in-law, you realise that there's far more to a place than the things you munch and the stuff you sip.Joe-Joe's (I'm going by the sign outside now) is nothing special to look at; pale blue outer walls, topped by a red roof. But it's as friendly as friendly can be, welcoming to strangers... especially those with a few spare minutes to chat.Nothing rushes in Joe-Joe's. It moves along at a country pace, serving subs, shakes (challenge Joe and he'll conjure up any flavour, based on the wide selection of ice creams in his freezer cabinet, mixed in an intriguing top-down blender that defies gravity), melts, burgers, pizzas; all the standard fast food fare.I had a 'moose tracks' milkshake, which sounded bizarre but was very tasty, with vanilla and peanut butter cups swizzed up.It's an incredibly popular spot with kids from the local school, and junior football kits decorate the walls. If you're in a hurry, or you like the slick anonymity of McD's or Hardees, drive on - this is not the place for you.But if you admire characters, you believe in supporting local businesses that offer a homespun welcome to those who aren't in a tearing rush, pop by Joe-Joe's and make sure you spend long enough to have a good old chin-wag with the loquacious proprietor. He's a hoot. It's also one of the cheapest places to eat in the States. A cup of tea for her and a large milkshake for me? "That'll be five dollars, please."

We cruised to the restaurant on my boss’s pontoon boat and enjoyed a group dinner together followed by ice cream of course. Drinks were good, seafood choices were abundant and I enjoyed my rockfish stuffed with crabmeat. Hush puppies good, baked beans, and cole slaw. Good service. Cruised back carefully at night. Enjoyable evening.

Floozies Pie Shop

Reviewed By 777robins

My wife and I recently stopped at Floozies on Main Street in Louisa, VA. The restaurant is small and would be difficult to find a table during their busy season. They are associated with Obrigado's Restaurant next door. I am guessing that Floozies serves breakfast and lunch foods, while Obrigado's handles the dinner fare.My wife ordered Floozies hamburger, which came with fries. I ordered their Chicken Pot Pie. The portion size was small compared to what you would find at other restaurants. My wife's burger was very good. My pot pie had a nice crust and was served in a small crock pot. The filling was of a soupier consistency than what I am used to. There was plenty of chicken and potatoes. There could have been more vegetables, though. The pot pie came with a salad or fruit, and I opted for the latter. We naturally had to try their pies. My wife ordered the "Pucker up and Kiss Me!" pie, a lemon pie with crust, which is made from thinly sliced lemons and baked in a sugar mix. The pie was very good with a pleasant texture. I had a cherry pie, which was also very good. The crust of the pies was typical of what you would find on turnovers. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. We would recommend Floozies if just for the pies!I would rate this a mid-price range restaurant, because of the portion size.

Billiken's BBQ Company

Reviewed By katehearts

We stopped here while motorcycling on a nice fall day. The smell as we approached was enticing enough! We like barbecue and have visited many places in the area- Billiken's was the best in terms of portion size (I had a brisket platter that had 3 huge slices of brisket- took about half home), quality of the meat and the price was equivalent to other places- for much more food. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The only downside was that a couple of side dishes were not available (this was at 2pm on a Saturday). But overall, the best BBQ we've had in central VA. We will definitely be back.

It has taken me a few days to think how to write this review. I must be truthful and i want to encourage the owners rather than reprimand. The basics: 1. It's a great idea in a good location in the middle of a triangle of Richmond, Charlottesville and Fredericksburg.2. The building is attractive. It's a brand new wooden barn pleasantly furnished.3. The food is good. However, a few points need attention. Suspicions first arose when I saw the parking area predominantly occupied by pick-up trucks. This was not promising. So why is a good restaurant with good food and pleasant surroundings attracting customers in pick-up trucks?1. The landscaping needs to be finished. The building is nice but the outside needs some major attention.2. The service, the service, the service! It is currently suited to a low-level roadside diner, at best, not a fine dining restaurant. Hence the pickup trucks.3. The serving staff need to be trained and taught how to behave. Asking if I am ready for the check halfway through eating the main course is not appropriate.4. The owner, who is a very nice guy who admits he knows nothing about the restaurant business, needs a manager who does.5. If you're going to be proud of your home made desserts, at least have some to offer customers rather than offering the weak excuse that you ran out yesterday.6. The black plastic table coverings are dreadful. Like the diner-style service, they drag the place down a few notches. At the very least, they should cover them with red and white checked tablecloths or better yet, white tablecloths.7. The name "Callie Opie" has nothing to do with Calliope of Greek poetry. It may be cute, but it is a distraction and they should change it completely - to reflect the good American food and surroundings. As for the food, my son ate the Hot Nashville Chicken Sandwich which was spicy and apparently good. I had it without the spice and it was very good. You have to request this as it is not offered on the menu.In short, the place has huge potential, but If I am going to drive 100 miles for lunch, I expect these items to be addressed. I look forward to another visit in the future.

Stopped for late lunch. Glad we did. Dining room on main floor, bar in basement. Old/historic tavern - dark/wood interior with lots of antiques along one wall. Outside seating available in back. Menu plus daily specials. Service was very good. Ordered mile high meatloaf and liver with onions. Both meals were excellent. Great comfort food meals. Took pics, but not before they were half eaten ;)Meals are very reasonably priced - ours were each under $10. Highly recommended.

If you're on I-95 in Virginia, take a detour to Louisa, VA for a really terrific meal. Mediterranean cuisine, well cooked and well presented. I hd curried mussels for an appitizer, nice curry flavor, but no heat -- if that's a problem for you. Main course was a lamb and eggplant ragu which was wonderful. My companion had the falafel platter which looked terrific, and disappeared quickly! Their homemade bread is great and the unsweet iced tea was better than the restaurant average. The desserts - which we had no room for! -- included a ginger gelato that souned terrific.Go -- you won't be disappointed
