Great hotel, and staff service - room for improvement though
Reviewed By dicaldwellsmithRooms were great, bathroom amazing, beds too soft though. Reception staff and management were very welcoming, and provided great service. Quick checkin. Coffee, and innovative ideas around self serving food worked well. However, getting food back to room was difficult. My main issue though, was the type of meals coming out of kitchen, variety at times was odd, and often meals were cold, in particular, breakfast. If I wanted to stay on a diet, this was the place to be...

Great Location
Reviewed By Suebob7Great location close to shops and railway station. Be aware there is no lift so you may be struggling to get your suitcases up the stairs. Also apartment not being serviced at this time which was unknown to us at time of booking. Apart from above it was a lovely, spacious apartment.

Dirty hotel.
Reviewed By karengN3338QGWe recently booked a night at Punthill Essendon. On check in the slovenly looking receptionist took our details without any enthusiasm, and not wearing a mask. When entering the room, it looked messy and did not smell clean. On inspection of the bathroom, the toilet was unflushed, there was hair all over the handbasin. I opened the refrigerator and was greeted with old rotting food and beverages from the previous occupant. We returned to reception and told the staff member we would not be staying in that room, and wanted a refund. He stated that he could not do this but could maybe he could find us a ‘clean’ room. His attitude did not give me the confidence that Punthill Essendon gave any care to cleaning, or COVID hygiene protocols. So much for their so called ‘Health First’ commitment.

Reviewed By GC24759We have had this hotel booked for more than 2 years, and I can personally say the wait was well worth it We arrived to a very warm welcome at check-in Once checked in the room was perfect clean, tidy, and very spacious The bar restaurant Saros was really exceptionally from cocktails to a magical range of wines spirits and beers there to meet locals and visitors to suit our taste buds Restaurant has a really good range of dishes catering for vegetarian vegan and any other dietary requirements Patrick and staff are there to help you pick and enjoy the range of food available Bams is always attending tables, making sure everybody is enjoying their food etc Niki, who we got to know really well over our stay, is a barrel of making new suggestions for different types of cocktails kept the wife happy as did all the staff at the Sebel

Reviewed By fromtheothertownSuch a cool old school motor inn. It's so of the period that when I entered my room and looked around I wanted to see an in-wall air-conditioner and was almost disappointing to see that they'd upgraded to a split system. It's a funky old motor in that has real character.

Reviewed By Phoebesmum10We were meeting a very early flight so decided to come down night before. I have mixed feelings on this hotel. 10 minutes to airport. Room was very quiet. Bed was comfortable, looked like a new shower, very modern. But, firstly we had to report that the dirty linen from when the room had been cleaned was still in the room. Manager came and got it and bought a new blanket. I then needed to wet the corner of the hand towel to clean the sticky rings off the counter tops. But when I went to make a cuppa I had to clean all the brown gunk off the rim and lid of kettle.

Good short/medium stay apartments
Reviewed By Zero_Alpha1We stayed here for 3 weeks while building works were being done on our home. We have a 5 year old and 8 year old so stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment on the top floor (1 x King bed, 1 x Queen and 2 x Queen singles). The bedrooms were all refreshingly large, with plenty of wardrobe space in each. There's a small bedside table with drawers in each room too, but no chests of drawers. Plenty of extra blankets and pillows. Assuming most people will be largely living out of a suitcase while staying here, that shouldn't be an issue (ours was an unusually long stay). Although the decor was a bit dated and a little worn here and there, the apartment was clean and the weekly cleaning, very thorough indeed. All basic appliances were provided and worked well. The 42 inch TV was an older one (actually had a set top box for free-to-air TV!), but it worked well and the reception was fine. We brought along our own Chromecast which took care of Netflix etc, so happy days. Wi-Fi was a bit patchy on the third floor where we were (it's shared with the second floor), so we worked around that by plugging in a laptop by Ethernet cable and used the Windows 10 mobile hotspot feature. Sorted. There is a single large reverse cycle air-con heater/cooler in the lounge which easily heated the whole apartment quickly and obviously, only when all room doors were open (presumably that's why the extra blankets are there, for overnight when internal doors are closed). Each room had a pedestal fan too, as we assume the opposite situation in summer. Location is excellent with the 59 tram stop right outside the building (which terminates at the Airport West shopping mall at one end, and goes into the CBD via Essendon and Moonee Ponds), an IGA Supermarket 5 mins' walk away, and a KFC and rare 24 hour McDonalds, across the road. And a very nice, albeit overpriced and overrated Italian resturant 400 Gradi a block over if you want something fancier, and don't feel like getting a tram or Uber to Niddrie village for a much better range of and cheaper dining options. Special mention must be made of Viola, the receptionist/concierge/manager. She was excellent. We found her friendly, helpful and responsive at all times (even after hours), and really made a positive difference to a 3 week stay with two young kids, which could have been a nightmare otherwise.

Afraid of identify theft, I told him I would happily show him the cards when I arrive to the hotel in 30min. Arrived at the apartments and was not served. I was unable to check-in and had to stay at a friends place nearby before catching a flight back to Brisbane Still ended up getting billed!!!!!!!!

Reviewed By 52yuvvery good location to the airport , within 15 minutes drive . And there’s a good Chinese restaurant near by within the walking distance . Linen is clean , hot water all the time . And space is large enough for me coz I have lots of stuff . They also have some amenities for you to make some simple food like the micro wave and toaster , fridge and the kettle. And the stuff is very helpful as well.
