Visited here with friends. Seated promptly. Drink, appetizer order taken. Drinks arrived. Our meal order was taken. Apps and meal arrived timely. The food was delicious. The service slowed from there. Drinks were not offered to be refilled. We needed to gain the attention to replenish our drinks. That was the only negative. The place was clean and comfortable.

Visited as a group of 3 - we were staying locally so decided to go for dinner - we arrived at 7:50pm and the staff were very friendly and allowed us to still order even though they stopped serving food at 8pm. The food was nice although, we felt, a bit over-priced for a bar meal. We were very disappointed to be told at 8:50 that they were closing at 9pm and wish the staff had told us this when we arrived as we would likely have gone elsewhere so we could relax after our meal with a drink.
I have to say that the bar prices are very expensive - we were charged £11.60 for a pint of Amstel and a pint of the local beer - unless they also charged for the tap water.
Overall, lovely staff but very expensive.

On arrival, the car park was completely full - but we saw vehicles parked beyond the car park through an open gate. so we proceeded through the gate, thinking this might be the overflow car park. As we left our vehicle, the chef/proprietor shouted to us "this is the staff car park" we explained his car park was full and we were greeted with the response "whatever!" Not a great welcome!
However, we were greeted by the young ladies inside the restaurant with grace and charm. My wife ordered scallops which had to be sent back when they arrived cold.
I had home made ham, duck eggs and triple cooked chips. The ham and eggs were really good but the chips were too oily by far. When I cut through one chip, the oil squirted onto the table! They were nice and crunchy, but but by the time I had nearly finished, I could't get my knife through them! They had clearly been put into oil that wasn't hot enough - a schoolboy error. This is a great pub and most of the food is good, but it's consistent attention to detail that makes great food!

Going home to Kent from Chichester we dropped in here for lunch. We were shown into the conservatory which was a lovely place to eat with spacious tables and very comfortable chairs. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxing and convivial. My starter was the mixed olives with bread and balsamic vinegar in oil. I was at first a little disappointed as usually i expect some artisan bread or even a good locally baked granary but instead I was served two slices of what has to be called supermarket bread one white, one brown. Olives were also plain standard type, nothing special but then Ii went on to the fillet steak which was perfectly cooked and served with real chips, substantial onion rings and freshly cooked mushrooms. Absolutely faultless and full marks here. I then went onto the cheeseboard which was so big it was unfinishable. Good quality cheeses including Brie, stilton and Cheddar along with a fine goat's cheese. To drink I had the dark ale and this was so good ia felt it would be a sin not to repeat the pleasure.
My wife being a vegetarian chose the parsnip and vegetables in cheese sauce. I tasted it and it was delicious.
An excellent place to dine and relax.Shame about the bread and olives.

Our family party, celebrating Mother's Day, enjoyed well cooked roasts and a fish main, before sampling the excellent crumble, banana pancake and cheeseboard from the dessert menu. Service was perhaps a little slow for some, as the place was understandably busy and we were a table of nine, but the staff were pleasant and obliging.
The house wine is sensibly priced, but the limited range of draft local beers was disappointing and served too cold to appreciate the flavour. Décor is traditional English country pub style with plenty of horse brasses decorating the bar area.
Menu prices are reasonable for the quality of the dishes on offer and our bill worked out at less than £30 per head, including service.

No Michelin stars here but simple unpretentious pub grub. Pheasant casserole and good ales, Bowman and Pots, what's not to like? Arrived just before a shoot party of about 50 great country characters that added hugely to the atmosphere. We'll be back.
