Michigan, United States Food Guide: 10 American food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Lansing

August 13, 2019 Vivienne Hutton

Find out what American restaurants to try in Lansing. The birthplace of the Oldsmobile and Michigan's automotive center, Lansing offers visitors a number of car-related sites like plant tours and automobile museums, but there are other forces driving this capital city. On the political side, there's the award-winning State Capitol Building, completely restored in 1992, where tourists are wowed by the glass-floor rotunda and acres of decorative handpainted surfaces. The Michigan Historical Museum, which boasts a great collection of items from Michigan's past, including a recreated copper mine, will please history buffs. Children and families will enjoy taking a camel ride at the Potter Park Zoo or spending the day biking through Sleepy Hollow State Park. On the cultural side, the nearby campus of Michigan State University is a must-see for the Kresge Museum and for the beautiful campus itself. Entertaining and educational attractions, great shopping, fabulous restaurants and a variety of affordable accommodations make Lansing worth the ride.

My colleagues and I dined here. The happy hour appetizers were a nice treat-we shared their shrimp-tasty, with a little zip and enough for 5 people to have 2 or 3 chunks- and their spring bruschetta-goat cheese and blackberry compote, a bit non traditional but tasty. For odd reasons, each member of the group wound up eating seafood-scallops, shrimp, salmon and Arctic char/ All the dishes looked lovely and were tasty and generous portions. The service was efficient but unobtrusive. We passed on dessert-nothing looked all that fun. They have a lovely selection of dessert wines-maybe they should add a nice cheese or fruit course to accompany them!

Everything about this place is fantastic. Whether you're here for breakfast or lunch, everyone is sure to find something they like.Worthy of celebration are their tacos--a definite can't miss. They have lots of vegetarian/vegan options, too, which is forever appreciated. Their mash up of flavors is unique and always delicious. We also typically grab some garlic parm fries for while we wait for our food. This is perhaps the only downside. The place is small and there's often a wait to sit down, though worth it.Before you leave, make sure to grab a cereal milk shake. THE BEST!

Came here for breakfast this morning before my daughter heads back out west. The service was friendly as always. Service is first come first serve which is very fair because each customer gets attention on order. Coffee cups always full. My daughter had the breakfast burrito she says amazing. I had eggs with toast (delicious), my potatoes were a little burnt as well as my sausage from being on the grill too long. Overall good meal.

Was amazed from start to finish. Excellent wine by the glass selection and proper wine glasses I might add. Deepest bourbon, Scotch and whiskey list I've seen in a while. Had fried green tomatoes that we're fabulous. Main course had the andoulle sausage, bacon and onion Mac and cheese that was beyond compare. McKinsey was the perfect host. This place is a hidden gem for sure!

Off the freeway so easy to meet friends. Service is friendly. Staff a bit mixed in their knowledge of the menu. Go if you like seafood. Meat available, but the menu is seafood and it is well prepared. Atmosphere is comfortable. The T-shirt crowd will be dining with you at price points where you might expect a bit more. Solid wine list fairly priced - 2.5 to 3 times retail.

Started inside but because it was so crowded, we couldn't hear each other let alone conversation across the table. We asked to sit outdoors even though it was very hot outside. Both servers and hosts were very good. No food this time but did enjoy our beer, Angry Mayor is a solid IPA and Amber Cream a smooth lighter beer.

We came here with two other couples after a work event. The folks at the Crowne Plaza hotel recommended this place. The atmosphere was comfy/cozy. We arrived right when they opened (Sunday hours) and by the time we left, the place was packed. The pizza's truly are unique and the wood fire grilling tops off the awesome taste. Each couple split an appetizer and each split their own pizza with their spouse. It was just the right amount of food. We all kept discussing how great the food was. No doubt, we will certainly return!
