Better than ever!

We visited from time to time before the terrorist attack in '17, but this was the first time back since they rebuilt. They have tightened security: unlike many places in Bamako where you open your bag and they just wave you through, they really examine what's in there. They have expanded swimming options: instead of one pool below and two small ones up the hill, there's a huge pool with a water slide now at the top of the hill. I have to say we have never really been impressed by what we've eaten there, esp. for the high prices. You aren't allowed to bring in food, so you need to either schedule your visit between meals, or hope for the best. Anyway, it remains one of our favorite places to take guests and enjoy a quiet day together or with friends.

Quiet, Quaint Hotel Near Airport

Reviewed By rwyhuang

It’s not a fancy hotel, but the staff are kind and the rooms are spacious and clean. They helped me with laundry, and provided water bottles. The rooms are not numbered. I was on the second floor. Wifi wasn’t that great, but managed. Could never get warm water, but it was so hot outside that cold showers were fine. Bed and pillow are quite firm. It is located close to the airport, and it is slightly like a gated compound. There is a nice sitting area, which is where you have breakfast. Breakfast is fried eggs, baguettes, croissant, mango jam, pineapple juice and coffee with warm milk.

A fairy tale with some imperfections

The Tamana hotel, near the Hippodrome in Bamako, has been conceived with the intention of creating a whole-African atmosphere. The center piece of the hotel is a garden where the customers can enjoy the shadow of big trees, the freshness of a waterpool and the charm of well-chosen African-style furniture, art works and decorations. Nicholas, the courteous director of the hotel, is running the hotel very well. During my stay, from 10 to 19 March 2019, I often made use of the restaurant of the hotel, not only for breakfast (comprised in the room price), but also for lunch and dinner. Mostly, too much personnel seemed at work for too little customers. In the evening, mosquitoes could be annoying companians. Tamana hotel is a bit far from the city center. However, restaurants, a bakery, an ice shop, bars and night clubs are at walking distance. Taxis can easily be halted (1,500 francs to the center) along the Bla Bla road.

An OK place to stay in Bamako

This is an average hotel, with average rooms and an average bathroom. I chose it for the location, and the two things I liked most about it were 1) the grounds, a large garden with flowers and outdoor tables, and 2) the people, who were friendly and helpful.

My friend is vegan so he suggested we head here so he could eat a decent meal. The menu was varied with enough options for vegans and non vegans. The atmosphere was great. I enjoyed the evening here!! I had the Malian sandwich and onion rings which were delicious. Food was reasonably priced and I had a flag beer!

Don’t believe the hype

So… if you are an 11 year old NGO worker and French, this is probably your demographic. If you aren’t, then skip this place. It’s just run down. Seriously- can they not tidy the jungle of a garden and pressure wash things to spruce it up? It’s just ugly. Food didn’t do much for any in our party. Readers Digest special- at best.

Just stayed at the Nanagaleni for the second time. A beautiful clean setting, lovely rooms, kind & helpful staff and delicious fresh foods from the gardens (be sure to try the lentil salad, bruschetta w/ fresh basil or fresh papaya puree w/ lime). Scenic paths to stroll along or you can sit comfortably under a tree or in a hammock, in addition to the very nice pool for swimming morning laps, great lounge chairs for sitting around with friends/snack bar, beer etc.+ the restaurant for meals. Just a wonderful place to go and relax, read & write or work (if you have to). A great break from Bamako!

Great pool and river view but customer service is poor

Reviewed By CamelJock

Waiters are friendly but slow to help or take drink or food orders. Our outside table had empty wine and beer bottles on the ground. Our table and chairs were dusty and dirty. No snacks are served until noon, as the kitchen opens then. They have excellent expresso coffee. They have one of the best pools -- long enough to do laps and very clean -- in the city, but we were not allowed to swim in the deep end without the lifeguard present -- but who comes at 12 noon, 3 hour later than our arrival. Even though we explained that the main reason we come is to swim in their great pool, the owner/manager was unwilling to change the lifeguard's hours. Two times we were told to wait for managers who were not actually present at the hotel. They need some customer service upgrades.
