Malcesine Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Malcesine

October 16, 2017 Jacquiline Delozier

Yet another lovely old town on Lake Garda, Malcesine is an elegant resort at the base of Castello Scaligero. Enjoy a leisurely day of shopping in town (making sure to stop at an outdoor café with a lake view), or if you’re getting restless, take a cable car to Monte Baldo for skiing in winter or challenging hiking in summer.

After 6 holidays in Malcesine since 2008, Mignon is still our favourite restaurant and we have no desire to eat anywhere else! The food is consistently good and reasonably priced, Margherita and her staff are happy, friendly and very welcoming and always look after us very well. The customer service is exceptional and that's what keeps us coming back (as well as the delicious food). We have celebrated our wedding anniversary there for the last two years (unfortunately raining this year, so we couldn't have our balcony table - but they did reserve it for our last night). There was a fresh flower posy on our table for me and drinks were 'on the house' for our anniversary meal. They also surprised us with complimentary desserts on two of our visits - and on our last day gave us a lovely gift of my favourite Chiaretto wine and a beautiful tablecloth that will always bring back fond memories after the holiday is long gone. We will definitely be back - but unfortunately probably not until 2020. Thank you Margherita, Gary, Omar and the rest of the team for making our dining experiences so memorable.

I agree with many other reviews on here. Wonderful food, lovely staff, excellent atmosphere.
A little first floor restaurant over looking one of Malcesine's bustling squares.
The food is to die for. I had salted meat starter and lamb cutlets main, Laura the octopus carpaccio to start and ricotta tortellini with truffle and cheese fondue main. We shared the sublime tiramisu to finish.
Staff were all warmly welcoming, attentive without being over bearing and knowledgable about the food and wine on offer.
We will return!

Would recommend if you are visiting Malcesine. Basic Pizza Margherita is 5 Euro, with 50 cents or 1 euro for extra toppings. Excellent pizza but very large, so we couldn't finish them. Nice, busy atmosphere but quick, efficient and friendly service. We only visited because the electricity was down in our hotel due to the thunderstorm but I'm really glad that we did. Coffee was only 1.50 Euro and was excellent.

Al Corsaro

I use Trip Adviser a lot and hadn't considered this restaurant because, at the time it was ranked number 8 in Malcesine. However, on our 3 night in town we had eaten at the number 2 ranked restaurant and the number 1 was closed. I found it quite hard to get excited about any of the others and so asked our hotel manager. If you wanted to try fish from the lake (as against from the sea) then he recommended Al Corasro.
When we arrived there was only one other couple in the restaurant. To be honest I wondered whether we had made a mistake. However, the food was excellent. My wife had crab with mango which was sublime and I enjoyed a very good beef carpaccio. For our mains we both had lake fish, my trout was in nuts with avocado and extremely good. The caramel desert with a crumb and mango was first rate.
Our waitress was a lovely Brazilian girl who honestly could not have looked after us better - thank you so much.
Ignore the other reviews and stay clear of the tourist traps. This restaurant may not give you gifts to promote good reviews but it does give you exceptional food.

My best friend and his new wife had their wedding breakfast here and it was simply incredible.
7 courses beautifully presented and served by knowledgeable waiting staff.
Couldn't fault a single dish, the chef was even bought out at the end of the meal and everyone thanked him and gave him a round of applause, you could see how much this meant to him.
Would definitely eat here again.

Gourmet restaurant Michelin star since 2004

My husband and I returned to Vecchia for the third time, this time to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.
We held our wedding reception here last year and so we're back to even more amazing food and great service.
We arrived to be greeted by Leandro and sat in the window with the best view, where we were just one year earlier!
We had the tasting menu for dinner, around six courses. Everything was to perfection, it's definitely earned its Michelin star. Wine was fanatics too, and not expensive at all, starting at around €25 for a bottle!
Service was fantastic too and we did not feel rushed. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. We will be back next year!

And right here, in a corner of great visual impact of his lakefront a few steps from the harbor and the parking of the old town is the restaurant “Treccani”, a traditional reference for those who appreciate good food and loves the fish chosen careful and well prepared. On our Terrace, directly overhanging the lake, you can enjoy memorable sunsets and views that you reconciled with nature and its true harmony. An ideal location for dinners by candlelight and carefree evenings with friends. Enjoying not only the kitchen but the pizzas made strictly with the oven. The generous wine list is a further guarantee that a lunch or dinner at the “Treccani” will allow you to enjoy, down to its essence, the magic of our village and its surroundings.

We ate in the outdoor part overlooking the lake just after a storm had passed so it was very windy but enjoyable. Swans and ducks on the small beach beside us. Bruschetta, Salad and Lasagne all good standard and tasty. Excellent house wine and service.

The setting, view and even the service at this restaurant are worthy of worthy of 5 stars. Absolutely fantastic. However, the food is real disappointing. My wife and I both had the "light" salad which you dress yourself - with substandard olive oil (generally speaking the olive oil served in this part of Italy is the best I've ever tasted) and cheap red wine vinegar compared to the balsamic served everywhere else in town. Our entrees where also disappointing. I had the trout which was good but it came with a fennel salad which was mismatched to the dish and on it's own was very disappointing. My wife had the lasagna which wasn't any better than the frozen variety we have at home. Breaking down my rating I give the ambiance and view 5 stars along with the service which was very god, the food earns two stars and the substandard olive oil and vinegar one star plus the bread was sort of dry and on the verge of going stale. Three stars overall is fair - maybe even generous.
