Local legend claims that Freeport was the birthplace of Maine, the decision to separate from Massachusetts having been made in a local tavern way back in 1789. Whether this is truth or folklore, Freeport has much more to offer, including South Freeport, a historic harbourfront village offering up a fresh catch every day. Nearby Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park and the Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary provide nature trails with scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean over the rocky shores of Maine.

Have been there a couple times recently. Plenty of parking. Great tacos! Haven't tried anything else yet. The burritos look huge.Lots of craft draft beer but I didn't really see anything special.Service was ok. Seems like it could be more friendly. It was noisy in the main room even when there was only one other party. The hard floor makes for tough acoustics. We suspect that the games in the bar will add to the noise level there. Will try it again.

Our hotel recommended this place. It was ok. Service at the bar area was super slow. Finally after waiting 15 min, a gentleman finally took our order. I got the seafood chowder which was good and hubby got lobster roll, meh. It’s conveniently located across from the LL Bean main store.Good day, I want to thank you for taking the time to write in, and on behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for your experience with us. We strive to provide only the absolute best guest experiences, and when that doesn’t happen, it becomes vital for us to know so that we can take the necessary action to make things right. I do hope you will consider returning to Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen & Topside Tavern in the future. If so, please contact our manager directly so she can ensure your dining experience meets both of our expectations.Sincerely,Linda L. Bean

As a non seafood eater, I am always hesitant to eat at a predominantly seafood restaurant because very often the non-seafood options are limited and prepared as an afterthought! Not so at the Lobster Cooker, while my podcast partner enjoyed the lobster bisque and fish and chip platter, I was able to thoroughly enjoy a portobello mushroom sandwich that was excellent. The mushroom was well marinated and the french fries were hand cut and made from local potatoes. They have both counter service for a quick meal and table service (which we found to be quick as well). Our bartender/server recommended an excellent local beer from the Maine Beer Company and was very informative and friendly with all of our questions.

Not thrilled about the BBQ here. Looked for some plain BBQ sauce without blueberries in it, and couldn't find it. Seriously? It doesn't come on the ribs. Also very little for non-meat eaters who accompany the meat eaters to eat. Not cheap either, so I am looking forward to trying a different place. Service was fine, but the meal was just average. Overrated. The only thing that I thought was good was the cornbread.

Jameson Tavern Restaurant

There are surprisingly few options for eating when strolling the shops of Freeport. Jameson is conveniently located, has some charm, and has long waits. The greeter was a little surly, and I actually felt sorry for her as she was busy in a restaurant with a frenetic mid-day pace. If there had been other options, I probably wouldn't have waited the 30+ minutes for a seat, especially since we had 2 children. However, had the weather have cooperated we could have waited just outside and that would have made the time seem much less. he food was simply "okay". I'd say the chowder was excellent, but the other meals our group of 6 had were all good, not outstanding. The calamari was a nice shared appetizer. The lobster roll a little pricey and a little disappointing. If you aren't time rushed and/or just want to sit for a while, eat okay seafood with prices that are just a little high, then this place fits the bill.
