Outside of the city of Maastricht is this beautiful castle. In the evening you are welcomed by a lot of candles lining the pathways to the castle nestled close to the marl caves. After an aperitive in the wine cellars, which I don’t think is optimal for the wines, we had a menu in the restaurant. Good service and original with a lot of attention for the “mise en place”. Salmon with nori, garlic, quinoa and sambai started with a Japanese touch. Grouper in a Mediterranean way and duck with ras-el-hanout both followed before a chocolate delicacy completed the meal.Dear Maurits, Yes you can have a Conference meeting in a lot of unique locations but a ten minutes drive to our location and into another world is a chance you will find only in Maastricht. Thank you and bring your love of friend next time,Cornelis SchormansManager meetings & events sales

As the title implies - this place is truly outstanding !! Liege - a place I had never passed through, or stopped off, in.....and I was glad.....it had been a terrible day, and this restaurant cheered me up immeasurably.......but bear with me.....I waffle (no pun intended) more, when writing sober...........I had arisen at 4 am, feeling hung-over, love-sick, dreadfully ill - with chest/rib pain - and incredibly tired. I could scarcely recall when I had felt at such a 'low ebb.' Whilst waiting to 'load' at Folkestone Eurotunnel, I had gone for a stroll to 'clear my head'.....upon returning to my car, I was truly stunned at the sight, which I witnessed......and I still cannot believe it even now......a woman, several feet away, and with her back to my car and her dog (which was on an extendable dog lead), remained unaware that, said-pooch, was (ahem!) - passing a 'movement' on/against, my car's, on-side (and front) tyre! I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it! She apologised profusely (to her credit), as she explained - she thought the (female) dog, was merely attempting to "scooch down" (her Gallic words) and "have ze little tinkle." As I explained, gently, I could look at this act, in no other way, other than a French Dirty protest against their 'British Cousins.' She laughed. Then I did.....a 'leeeetle'.....With this, in mind, I wanted 'revenge'.....(yes, against anything Gallic). Would I crack a Maginot line joke? Too clichéd! Ahhhh....non....non....non.......As I went parallel, with the French Passport control box, and handed (Vincent!) my passport (deftly) - I blasted The Flight of the Conchords' 'Foux Du FaFa' at 'him'! Full blast! I uttered the words - "Voila mon passeport !!!!! Jacques Cousteau !!!!" He was confused.......I was delighted....as I sped off, the tyre became a kind of 'Gatling Tyre', if you will, firing off the remnants of the 'movement' onto the side of the Passport Control Box....I laughed.......massively! (And I didn't stop chuckling, the entire train journey). The day turned sour (albeit not musically - 'Mermaids', 'Ladies of the World', and 'The Big House/Muppets Most Wanted' - McKenzie/Clement - two musical/comedy geniuses) when I ended up in a most rural, remote part of Wallonia......I had desperately required water for my car screen-wash....I parked up, in the middle of nowhere, and went to purchase a 2L bottle of water from a small shop. "Evian is naïve spelt backwards," I muttered to myself as I went to return to my car.....Then, befuddlement.....6 figures were stood around my car, peering in, and laughing hysterically......I broached these 6 'uncouth wildlings' as to what they were doing, and 'why' they were laughing.....the 'ring-leader' (who, to their credit, spoke decent English), informed me they had never seen a right-hand drive car before...and that they were convinced it had been "specially adapted for someone with........special needs"..........I told the (circa) 14 year old school-girl ('ringleader') and her 5 female friends that by, de facto, she had inadvertently insulted "every British person (but never mind the Scots and Cornish), The Queen, Prince Phillip, the Welsh Corgis......and even Godzirra.....and the Japanese......."Later.....I ended up here.......I deserved it.....my stomach deserved it....my, even the restaurant deserved it.....The menu? Varied and extensive! The price? Considering this is FINE dining - exceptional! You'd pay MORE for a meal in the Markt in Bruges, for example....The fish.....amongst the VERY best I have tasted !I opted for the 'Smoked Fish entree' - incroyable !!!!!! Magnifique !!!!! Service the very same......Main course - Trout Meuniere - again - outstanding, elegant, and tasty beyond words......the restaurant itself? Beautiful, and I felt that if I could 'secure that face-transplant off, either, Ryan Gosling, or Marat Safin', then, my face, would surely have belonged here......a great place for couples wanting a 'romantic meal'.....I had to go down the route of 'psychological onan-ism' , if you will.......The dessert? Liegeois !!! A triumph, indeed.....as someone else, (below) wrote.....yes, where is their 'star', Michelin !!!Great price, great food, great service !! If I am ever passing through Liege again, I will certainly stop-by, undeniably.........
