Don't get suckered with the "economy room"

Reviewed By bagnell283

1st off go get a camping spot over this. The bed is no different then sleeping on the ground. 2nd the bathroom is so small, I barely fit in it. No tub in the economy room just a tiny shower that I also barely fit into. I would rather stay in a motel 6. This was our first and probably last stay in the Home Hotel. There are many better places to stay in lava for the same or a better price.

The Alpaca is my favorite place to stay in Lava. We sat on the patio watching squirrels and hummingbirds each morning. If you are looking for a room in Lava, you will never be disappointed here. Like summer camp for adults

This place is absolutely beautiful. Can we even go so far as to say it is magical? The cozy atmosphere and sweet antiques in this place add to what I call "the experience". This is not just a place to stay. You will feel relaxed, rested, and find that you have made unexpected friends (! even in this day and age!) with dogs and people here. For those with small children, the dogs loved my toddler, and she loved them! There is an unspoken code that when you stumble upon this place, you are welcome to join the group discussion on the porch. The owners and employees here are so welcoming and open for a chat with a lonely traveler. An outdoor fire pit, rope swing, and hammocks all add to the feel of the place. You can even walk down some steps to the river as this place is on the river bank. A 5 minute walk down the road will lead you to a fabulous Thai restaurant. Thank you for an unforgettable visit! We will be back!

Very outdated, not pleasant stay, would not recommend!

Reviewed By Biggerbulls

Very old, outdated and rough. Cons: room old smoker smell, carpet torn, parking is minimal, few outlets, poor toiletries. Pros: close to soaking, bed was comfortable, employees nice "ColoredTV by RCA" sign out front tells you something!

Love The Riverside Inn & Lava Hot Springs!

Reviewed By EliKenoah

Lava Hot Springs is a “must” stop on our trips from Ohio to visit our family in Oregon, and, after trying several other lodgings, the Riverside Inn & Spa is our Lava home. The rooms are cozy and well-appointed, and the great room and common areas, welcoming. In the years since purchasing the Riverside Inn, Gail Palen’s renovations have brought a quiet elegance to the historic hotel. The private soaking rooms on the lower level have been transformed from dingy, dated hot tubs to beautifully tiled, intimate retreats for guests. The Inn offers full relaxation massages, and though we have not availed ourselves of these opportunities, I am planning “The Works” on our next visit. We highly recommend the Portneuf Grille & Lounge, also on the lower level, which offers gourmet fare along with live music on certain evenings. My review wouldn’t be complete without commending the staff, who over the years have become like family. Whether it is your first visit or your twenty-first, you will feel welcomed to the warmth of this Lava Hot Springs landmark.

The end stage of decline

Reviewed By EdsondeTaos

There are pools with a sufficient range of temperatures. But the decay, eroded and broken concrete, makeshift this and thats and varying hues of black and gray deep staining are a put off. The breakfast is something to die for, quite literally. A hodgepodge of furniture styles and decors suggest a long line of aesthetics illiteracy. The place never seems to have developed enough clientele to maintain the grounds and facilities.

Clean, Friendly, Great Location!

Reviewed By ThatWritingGirl

Reading some of the other reviews for this hotel, I'm surprised. But there are always picky people, and reviews tend to run on the negative side. Yes, the hotel is an old building--but I call that classy. It had an old-world feel which I thoroughly enjoyed. I stayed in Room #1 with my sister for a birthday trip, and we loved this adorable little room. Beautifully decorated, it was clean, well stocked, and quiet. The location is perfect for easy access to the local grocery store, restaurants (amazing food, btw), and not far from the hot springs. We stayed two nights. There was a little fridge and microwave, both in great working order. The bathroom was clean and neat. No issues with the plumbing. The heating system worked well. The bedding and bed itself were clean and comfortable. The TV was modern and hooked in with satellite TV. Best of all was the staff, especially Rachel. She was friendly, helpful, and informative. My sister and I fell in love with the adorable gift shop just inside the hotel. Again, classy. We had no issues whatsoever. It was a wonderful, relaxing trip, and we'd gladly go back. Recommended!

Dangerously neglected property

Reviewed By brudluck

Where to begin? I have never rented a more disgusting and dangerous place in my life! There was ice right up to the stairs that you had to go down. There was no handrail and they were uneven. Every time I had to go to my car I was afraid I was going to fall down the stairs. Inside there are no doors on the bathrooms! Reviews from several years ago mention this...YEARS without having bathroom doors. The floor is rotted out between the dishwasher and the sink. It is completely rotted to the point there is a hole thinly covered by carpet . The carpet is stained and disgusting. There are cobwebs everywhere which implies it is not being cleaned properly. Several light switches did not work. The windows were not able to be opened and the more on them started the reason is the track is broken and they will break if opened. Also, the entire cabinet above the stove is about to fall off! THE CABINET IS FALLING OFF THE WALL!!! If you are looking at the other reviews and think things have changed because they were written in 2016 or 2018...BELIEVE THEM. NOTHING HAS CHANGED! In fact they are likely worse because there has been no maintenance. This place is falling down around you while the owners line their pockets with your money. My family rented another condo owned by the same company next door. You could tell the bathroom has been remodeled and it looked nice, however, the shower flooring is stone which hurts to stand on and there is NO water pressure. Also I killed 2 hornets in the condo, in March. The only way I could imagine they were coming in the apartment is if they made a nest in the glow doors of either the bedroom or the bathroom, both of which are riddled with holes.
