Le Tire Bouchon

Reviewed By OnceBittenMelbourne - Melbourne

Unlike so many other restaurants, Le Tire Bouchon makes a definite statement about its cuisine: no fries, no sauce! Our first visit was on a sunny lunchtime in early September, where a close examination of the various "formules" on offer excited our curiosity, especially since to seniors such as we, all the options seemed to offer good value for money. Others must have thought the same because the only table available was in the street. We sat down and were promptly given a menu from which we could choose a-la-carte or a formule. My wife and I both ordered from the formule menu, and I do remember our choices were well-presented and tasted delicious. The service too was very good, so much so that at the end of our meal, we made a reservation to return in a few weeks and try an evening sitting.
And we did. Again we were seated promptly, and again we received the same friendly service - this time our waiter clearly spoke better English than we spoke French! I ordered from the Formule 22 menu and chose the smoked salmon with dill for my entree (delicious); for my main I chose the pork belly with a creamy mushroom sauce and boiled, small new potatoes (excellent); and for dessert I guiltily chose a nougat ice-cream topped with raspberry sauce (annoyingly more-ish!) My wife had a pork terrine for her entree and a main course of mini-scallops, rice, caramelised onions and a small lettuce salad. Her verdict? Excellent!
The wine list was fairly extensive but (as usual) we played safe and went with the house red, a merlot. At Euro 7.50 for 50cl it too was well worth the money!
So a little gem in Lannion - thoroughly recommended.

my husband took me here for my birthday last night---it was more than just going out for a meal--it's the only truly Moroccan restaurant in Lannion (that I know of)--ok so you say why go Moroccan when your in France? answer, if you're staying in France for a while and looking for a little variety--the restaurant was chock a block so you need to make Reservations or you'll be waiting --it was a Friday night for us and they had a belly dancer entertaining. There menu offers a good variety of food and they also have cocktails that can't be ordered at the local bar. I know this place got a bad review 2yrs ago but it wasn't like that for us--the food was excellent and for the small staff they had I think they did quite well in serving about 400 people (it was that full) --the atmosphere and decor totally makes you feel like you're in Morocco --they were spot on for that--the staff was extremely friendly and upbeat---and the entertainment was good--that girl worked the whole restaurant weaving in and out of tables and she also had a stage--and the bill to me was very economical --try to go when they have the entertainment to get the full experience

I took my son who was visiting from UK to Le Borneo for his birthday. We visited during lunch, it was busy as always. We both decided to go for the dish of the day which was chicken. This had sold out so they offered us steak as a replacement! The food for the whole group was superb, our steaks cooked to perfection and the Panna cotta was sublime. They were so kind to bring sparklers in my sons dessert without asking, and this was super kind. The charge for our steaks was only the lunch time special which we thought was very generous. Thank you Le Borneo for another great visit, we will come and visit again soon! Out new favourite restaurant.

Reserve in advance as this place is packed with locals for both Lunch and Dinner. Excellent, authentic "gallettes" (savory-filled crepes) and "crepes" (for dessert or with sweets) as well as good salads plus very-good local "bolees" of locally-brewed Breton Hard Cider (careful, it goes down easy but packs a punch)!
On a weekend there is often local music - and indoor and outdoor dining - in the heart of Lannion, an authentic Breton French town near the Granit Rose coast. Well worth the visit.

La Ville Blanche

Reviewed By MontrachetJ - Brixham, United Kingdom

A restaurant whose menu promised much but that ultimately disappointed. In some ways this seemed like a throwback to a type of cuisine that we thought had passed: portions that show no respect to either diner or to the ingredients chosen, and liberally scattered with nasturtium flowers to demonstrate the chef's Michelin credentials.
To be fair, there were some moments of excitement on our Menu de Fete (85 euros) - we thought the use of citron pate and poivre de Timut with the turbot worked exceptionally well and the lamb noisettes were beyond reproach - but I left remembering not these highlights but the lowlights of a single stick of white asparagus overcooked and wasted on the langoustine dish and on the ridiculously small piece of turbot offered (and a surprisingly grey looking turbot, at that). My wife was very positive about the chicken broth that accompanied the foie gras raviolis. But then there should have been highlights on a menu of this price from a chef holding a Michelin rosette. Rather more highlights... and perhaps rather more of the ingredients.
No, this didn't work for me and neither did the dining room, with the tables too close together or the staff (excusing one excellent waitress) with their annoying habit of explaining the dishes only to one of us - the other couldn't hear a word, because of the noise from the adjoining table.
All in all, therefore, a poor experience. We drove off speculating at the ratio between the cost of the sparse ingredients on the menu against the price charged. Which is a sad thing to do, but reflects what sort of experience this was.

La Gourmandine

Reviewed By DonPaulo - Richmond, Virginia

Our Dumont guidebook recommended this gem. We were lucky to be the first guests of the evening as we had not made Reservations. The restaurant is small and holds 30 guests at most. Within a half hour, there was not a seat to be had. It obviously has a loyal local following. When you enter this gourmet restaurant, you are stunned by the décor. It is obviously the love of a woman’s life. There is not the slightest hint of anything masculine in the room. A charming, sexy lady named Zaza runs the place – and I do mean runs (in her tight dress and high-heels). The only employee works the kitchen. Zaza answers the phone, welcomes guests, takes your orders, cooks your entrée on the open wood fire, serves your table and cashes you out. The other lady does all the rest. I have never seen such a restaurant like this – and it works! The menu is limited to a few meat and seafood dishes. My wife and I shared tastes of two entrées a Coquille St. Jacques and tenderloin with a wonderful foie gras sauce. The baked potato was as good as the best I have ever eaten anywhere. We were too full for desserts, but those delivered to neighboring tables were a delight to see and were met with enthusiasm by their recipients. Our total bill came to just 38 Euro.
ZaZa must be exhausted when the last guest leaves!

This Is A Traditional Restaurant With Local Kitchen...

Stumbled across this place in Lannion during our recent trip to France . Buffet starter of salads.
Main course is ordered through the waitress, help yourself to desert, wine and water.
The food was absolute quality . We chose the vegetarian option and ordered one main course to share , the waitress happily brought two plates . It didnt take long for us to realise that this is a refreshingly different place to eat. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere , excellent food and great staff.

The food was of the best quality in a modern decor. After Reading other reviews, it would seem that the chef is able to mix ingredients at will and as it comes and still make the meal pleasurable, with a lot of flavours. We had the meal of the day and it just melted into our mouth. This is a fine cuisine restaurant and with the 3 courses it was just enough for us; I would not recommend if you appreciate quantity over quality.
You can see the chef at work and that is a plus in a restaurant for me.
