A Japanese blogger recommended this steakhouse where the meat is delicious and perfectly grilled. 67000JPY for 150g of the Muruzawa (only 80 cows are felled every year), about 57000JPY for 150g of the Hirai. My family has gone three times; we've ordered a la carte and the lunch sets too. Each order comes with salad and vegetables. One can order extra salad for a small fee. Beer is served perfectly chilled. Service is warm and efficient.Tip: The small casual and cozy restaurant takes only a limited number of reservations per day, made online. It is open only five days a week, for about 3.5 hours for lunch meals. What we do is arrive around 1030H on the days it is open, sign our name on the list that is put out around 0900H, then walk around Saga-Arashiyama before returning at 1100H (opening time).The restaurant only takes cash.

I stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around near the bamboo forest. From outside it looks very nice but quiet. Usually i prefer to go to crowded restaurants, but somehow this time I went in. Im glad I did. Their specialty is wagyu and the famous kyoto tofu. I tried both and oh my god.... THE WAGYU WAS AMAZING! Very soft, juicy, and generously sliced (even the 80gr one), and the tofu was sooo soft and nice. Overall i really recommend it. The interior is also very nice and is actually more crowded than it seems :)Thank you for choosing "kijurou"We're very glad to recieve some comments of high evaluation.We're waiting for your second visit with our hospitality when you come to Arashiyama again.

This is located just a short distance from JR Umahori station and enroute to th Scenic Railway's Kameoka Torokko station. It is a rather small place, with 7 tables, 3 of which are with Japanese-style seating. There is only one waitress but she and the kitchen are clearly very efficient as the dishes arrive fast. Some dishes at least, appear to be limited in number each day; probably a good way to keep ingredients fresh? The waitress speaks good English and also explains how to eat our Sukiyaki, etc. The beef is definitely great and reasonably priced. Worth a visit for lunch before/after Arashiyama.
