Reviewed By Z_richArtVery friendly and helpfull staff. Hotel is well situated and although on the main road not noisy. Excellent food. The hotel is doing renovations so there is a hugh diffrence in style between the older and the new parts. The new rooms are very stylish

Horrible restaurant
Reviewed By 693torbenjWe visited the restaurant during our stay in Baad. The food at Alpenhotel Widderstein was terrible - everything was deep-fried directly from the freezer. The service was really rude and unprofessional. Overall - We would recommend you go anywhere else in Baad.

The hotel Birkenhohe located right on the slopes of Kleinwalsertal, with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. All our rooms have a balcony or terrace, free WiFi A flat-screen satellite TV and a seating area in each of the comfortable rooms offer you a pleasant stay. Our 650 m² spa area with indoor pool, soft sauna, Finnish sauna, steam room, shower oasis and relaxation rooms, invites you to relax. The large gym, pool, relaxation rooms and our terrace offer wonderful panoramic views. It offers a wide range of massage treatments and relaxing baths in our spa. The restaurant serves traditional Austrian cuisine and regional specialties from Kleinwalsertal. Our half-board comprises a rich breakfast buffet, lunch soup, cake in the afternoon, 5-course-menu and once a week our buffet in the evening. In summer, you can use the 8 regional cable cars in Kleinwalsertal and Oberstdorf and the busses in Kleinwalsertal free. Private parking is possible on site, free of charge.
Great Place to Relax

While we definitely like a bit of luxury and enjoy good food, we usually find five-star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants too pretentious. We have stayed at the Birkenhöhe five times (in the summer) -- we arrive jet-lagged from America, and a few days later we leave refreshed. There are wonderful hiking trails throughout the Kleinwalsertal area and if you stay three days or more you get a free pass to the buses and chairlifts. The food on the half-pension is really superb: dinner is typically a soup, a trip to the salad bar, an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert; small, but elegant, portions that accumulate to a perfect sized meal. There is an extensive wine list, with daily recommendations/specials. The breakfast buffet (included in the price) is to die for. The wellness facilities are also excellent, with a lovely pool, sauna, steam room, etc., and an on-site massage person (Helmut) who, according to my wife, who always gets one, gives a wonderful massage.

Highly enjoyable stay!
Reviewed By G_LetiWe spent two lovely weeks at Gaestehaus Fritz. It's in a fantastic location, with beautiful views across the valley towards the snow capped mountains. There is a bus stop close by (for the free tourist snow bus, handy with kids on a snowy day) or you can ski almost to the door! We had a lovely family room with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a balcony. The breakfast room and shared spaces are beautifully decorated and a pleasure to spend time in while the outside is as pretty as a picture. The breakfast itself is excellent - fresh and delicious (my favourites were the boiled eggs and the fruit salad). The skiing is varied (have a look at how many different trails and runs are on offer across the resorts on the same card) and sensational. During our 12 days of skiing we didn't have a single day off (highly unusual for me) because we were having such a great time. And a big part of that was our amazing host Alex, who made sure we knew all the best ways of getting places, doing things and having fun. Thanks for a fantastic stay Alex, we hope to travel back and stay with you again one day!

Perfect Location
Reviewed By Peter CThis is our second visit to this small and friendly run guesthouse after we had been here in January for a weeks top class skiing. We decided to spend our summer vacation here also as we were told that the trekking was also exceptional. We were not disappointed, the central location of the guesthouse was ideal for reaching the nearest cable car going up the Kanzelwand mountain which is about 100 mtrs from the door and in the winter we were able to ski right past the guesthouse breakfast room. There are plenty of restaurants in the village to choose from and all within a short walk of the property. It is also possible to purchase the daily cable car ticket when you make your booking which offers a good saving over the tickets when purchased direct. This ticket gives you access to the various mountain routes and lifts for the area that covers Kleinwalsertal and Oberstdorf. The rooms are a little on the small side but well appointed with balcony we took a Mountain View room on both visits. Breakfast is a buffet style which was excellent and with plenty of choice. The hotel owner was very knowledgeable about the area and always ready to give helpful tips regarding restaurants, treks, places of interest etc. We would recommend this place without hesitation especially as it gives exceptionally good value for money

Reviewed By Tibbsy14A lovely family run hotel in a beautiful location. Our room was very comfortable, with a good view from the balcony. The meals were superb, and the staff friendly and attentive. The hotel is ideally situated in the area for hiking, with free bus and lift passes, and a room for drying boots. We had a fantastic two weeks - Thanks to all the staff.
