We go here at least every summer as a tradition. The coastline around Kivik is nothing short of stunning! This is our favourite eatery while in Kivik, not so much because of the food, but more because of the location. The seafood served outside is average, portions on the small side, and selection quite limited considering that perhaps Swedens best fishmonger is connected to this restaurant. However - this is definitely still worth a visit due to location and ambience of the place on a sunny afternoon!!

I have been here a few times and I love it. Friden is a very different type of destination eating. Located in an old farm house a few kilometres outside Kivik you have to go by car or get a taxi, but it is well worth it. Friden does its own thing, in their own way and does it well. They serve great handcrafted pizzas in a unique setting. The restaurant is very basic, no frills and the service is sometimes slow but thats part of the package. Most guests aren't in a hurry anyway because getting a table in the busy summer season is not easy, so make the most of your evening there. The pizzas are all named after persons and I was told last time that there is a thought or a story behind each name. The menu doesn't give you any explanations, though. I gather it's part of the history and culture of Friden and not supposed to be explained. Have a pizza and a couple of beers from their impressive beer list and enjoy1

We got a special deal to get a three course meal here in connection with our reservation at Agda Lund B & Bs
There are only tables for 30 people indoors, it is a simply decorated with a friendly, knowledgeable staff.
All the dishes we were served tasted good and refreshing. Vinoteket that existed here was a fun feature that we've never seen before.
Even the toilet was special, intimate music with soft lighting with a clear buddha theme.
I will come back with a visit here next time we are passing Kivik.

Route.
Arriving from the south on Landsväg 9 (country road number 9) you turn at a road-sign saying "Stenshuvud Nationalpark" and ”Annorlunda”. You turn again according to a road-sign saying "Annorlunda".
Arriving from the north, along Landsväg 9, you turn at and via the road ”Svinaberga Backa” (the road-sign here only says ”Stenshuvud”), you turn once again according to a road-sign saying "Annorlunda", and then again you turn at yet another Annorlunda-sign.
From this last corner, the last leg of the route is 2,1 kilometer to the "Coffee-Hut Different".
Beware of ugly bumps in the beginning of the road, while you pass the farm-yard. The bumps may lead to a whip-lash syndrom, if you do not roll extremely vigilantly over them.
Stone-head National Park.
If you drive an additional 400 meter further on from Annorlunda, you arrive at the parking area of "Stenshuvud Nationalpark", which in itself is well worth a circular stroll through its ancient cultural landscape, passing a little herd of loose, black-and-white cattle on your way. You may even take a swim in the Baltic Sea.
The building ”Lângkatekesen”.
Café Annorlunda is an old school-building "Lângkatekesen" from Grâmanstorp, cirka 2,5 km NW of Klippan town, 108 km NW of Stenshuvud, and 34 km NE of Helsingborg.
In this school-building the Christian catechism (katekismus) was taught by means of questions and answers. This was the level of pedagogy and teaching aspiration in those days.
History of Lângkatekesen.
1846 – The school was built as a half-timbered house with fine oak. The teacher had his home here as well. The school-building was 17 meter long, plus an L-shaped annexe for firewood, privy and cowshed.
1857 – Due to its wind-exposed position, the school-building was boarded over with pinewood on the south side plus the short sides, in order to maintain a tolerable inside temperature in the wintertime.
1873 – An extra school-room was built on the eastern side (in Stenshuvud: the southern side), bringing the school-building length up to about 23 meter, so now the name ”The long Catechism” emerged, I imagine.
1900 – A neighbouring school-building was built. – Today: Grâmanstorps Bygdegârd, for social gatherings.
1938 – Lângkatekesen was abandoned as a school.
1953 – Lângkatekesen was torn down, but the fine oak half-timber was preserved.
1955 – The fine oak half-timber was bought by Astrid Lindquist (the author Astrid Lindgren is quite another person). She proposed to rebuild Lângkatekesen at a rocky foreland called Vârhallen/Vârhallarna (with natural pools and narrow inlets, and between two sandy Beaches, 3 km N of Simrishamn), but her petition was denied.
1956 – Lângkatekesen in stead was rebuilt in a much better environment in Stenshuvud National Park (15 km further north from Vârhallarna), where the plentiful trees protect the restaurant's out-of-doors serving areas from strong winds.
1989 – Astrid Lindquist died. Astrid's daughter Lene and her two brothers carried on.
1997 – Lene died. Lene's children Martin and Cecilia plus their father Kjell Mânsson carried on.
Kaffestugan Annorlunda.
Astrid Lindquist had a motto for the Different Coffee-Hut: ”Everybody ought to be able to afford a good cup of coffee in a quiet and cosy atmosphere”.
This motto probably emanated from the aftermath of the Second World War. Nowadays we live in the aftermath of an economical recession, that only causes slight financial ripples.
I do believe that a jump forward in cake quality and distinctiveness from one cake to the other could make a positive difference for today's Kaffestugan Annorlunda. Though already steep, the price in this instance would have to follow suit, of course.
The homesite
of KaffestuganAnnorlunda is in dire need of a review by a university graduate who is proficient in the Swedish language.
Furthermore, the Google-translations of the homesite into English and German are unintelligible to a degree close to incomprehensible. Therefore, the university graduate must be proficient in those languages too.
Google Translate is simply too bad and clumsy and unfit for mindless use.
The reconstructed school-building
is furnished with oldish furniture (a mix of furniture-eras!), lending an air of old times (and more recent times) to the atmosphere, everywhere you look inside the original Lângkatekesen-building.
Elegantly hidden at the back of the original school-building, a rather big extension (sun lounge) has been built, capable of accommodating cirka two bus-loads of tourists.
You may also choose to sit outside at tables in the front garden, or in the courtyard.
You simply find a table – inside or out – and wait for the staff to take your order.
Take care: You can not be certain that your table was cleaned after the last visitor's spillings. Annorlunda needs a cleaning waiter, mainly cleaning tables.
Cake Buffet.
The concept in Kaffestugan Annorlunda is a cake buffet accompanied by coffee, tea or drinking-chocolate, all at one fixed price:
7 different dry cakes, 4 kinds of cookies, 2 kinds of soft cake, and home-made buns with butter.
Soft Burger-bun.
In stead you may order a soft, industrially manufactured bun with shrimps – or a bun with small, industrially manufactured meat-balls, not worthy of a restaurant serving. However, the soft bun does make it safer to use your plastic knife and fork (the food luckily is served on a small porcelain plate).
My wife and I chose the buns, because the cake buffet appeared a little dull for our taste (no layer-cakes at all).
The shrimps were fine – the soft, industrial bun was not.
Soft Ice
in a cone/cornet or in a paper cup is delicious and rather firm, and therefore it does not drip easily – at first. The ice is sold from a separate kitchen door.
Visa.
You may pay by means of your Visa-card, but only inside Lângkatekesen, on a stationary data-terminal.

This is a decent café and don't get me wrong, for coffee and cakes its probably super. We had lunch, which wasn't bad, but for about 200SEK per person I want to get full. The meatballs was ok, but only getting three of them felt cheap since they were small. All and all, left the place still hungry and somewhat disappointed.

We would never have found this place if we hadn't been recommended it by friends. It is located high above Kivik harbor and hidden away. Not very well advertised which is a shame. It is a hotel and restaurant. We went there for lunch. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the Terrace which offers a fantastic view of the sea. There is a lovely garden below the Terrace as well. Friendly service, good food, reasonably priced lunch. Our only complaint was that the food was served luke warm, would have tasted even better if it had been hot. The fish soup serving was quite small, which was fine for me, but someone with a larger appetite would not have been satisfied. It varies though, because the veal patty with mashed potatoes was a much larger portion.

Eating brunch at Kärnhuset restaurang was a nice surprise. I was not aware that they are serving brunch on Sundays and thus, the visit to the shop extended to a visit to the restaurant as well.
The restaurant itself is not big, but divided into two medium sized rooms, with beautiful views over the Gardens. It is simply decorated, clean and with enough space to move between the tables. Staff is also professional, friendly and helpful.
The brunch includes the food, the drinks/coffee (take away coffee as well) and desserts and fruits. Although we did not have a reservation, as soon as we entered we paid for the number of guests and then chose a table. The table with the main dishes is in one dining room, while the desserts are in the other room. There is no much on offer, but one portion does fill you up quickly.
The only negative about this place is the price for the brunch, which is 199 Swedish crowns per person. For what is on offer, the price is a little too high. Although the whole experience was lovely, I would say that there are other places which offer better prices and more variety.

Stayed for a Saturday night.
Good beds, limp towels, great location for a morning swim. Do not expect a double bed but rather two singles (a twin scenario) put together when booking a double room with sea view - this was good for me as I travelled with a friend. Maybe not so good if you're bringing a hot date ...
The view is unbeatable, the location is very nice as is the hotel and the verandah. Breakfast included "make you own waffle" and raspberry jam with cream - this is where I press "like".
However, the hotel has no night staff so if your neighbours decide to play guitar and sing at 01 am you will have to sort that issue out on your own - or stuff your ear plus further in.

Living in New York for most of my life, I have certainly eaten in many different Italian style restaurants serving all types of Pizza. Thick, thin, soft, mushy, runny, drippy and crispy.
I prefer a fairly thin and crispy Pizza. Taveling to Sweden for over 35 years I find most Swedish Pizza to be fairly thin and having a mostly soft consistency.
In early July 2014, I had the distinct pleasure to eat at Tangdala. It is not located in a business district but further out in a residential area. Actually in the front of a private home on a quiet street.
Peter, the owner/chef is a pleasant and friendly fellow. We arrived around 5:45 on a Tuesday. The outdoor eating area was already 75% filled so get there early. They open at 5:00 pm.
All the Pizza is baked in an outdoor homemade wood fired brick oven and Peter delivers each Pizza directly to your table. The old, folded hundreds of times, paper menus and handwritten drink list are worth the visit to this place.
How does the Pizza taste? Very good compared to all other Swedish pizza I've eaten. Crispy with a good assortment of spices resulting in excellent flavor. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the pizza and the soft jazz music blowing in the warm breeze.
Eating pizza while sitting in someone's front yard is a new and fun experience for us. I recommend this place and think you too will enjoy Tangdala. If you like onions on your pizza be sure to bring your own onion...Peter did not have any.
