Kingussie (/kɪŋˈjuːsi/ ( listen) king-EW-see; Scottish Gaelic: Ceann a' Ghiùthsaich pronounced [ˈkʲʰaun̪ˠə ˈʝuːs̪ɪç] ) is a small town in the Badenoch and Strathspey ward of the Highland council area of Scotland. Historically in Inverness-shire, it lies beside the A9 road, although the old route of the A9 serves as the town's main street which has been bypassed since 1979. Kingussie is 42 miles (68 km) south of Inverness, 12 miles (19 km) south of Aviemore, and 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Newtonmore, which is its greatest rival in the game of shinty.

What a marvellous dinner we had in beautiful surroundings and such attentive and friendly service. The food was perfectly cooked and such an interesting selection of mostly local ingredients. There were also extra delicacies served, especially the Cullen skink which was sublime. My greatest sorrow is that it is so far from home!

I stopped here last weekend as it was past lunch and I really needed food. I ordered soup and sandwiches, which I couldn't finish. The portion size was good - sandwiches are triple decked but it isn't needed.
I ordered ham and sandwiches, which isn't actually an option so I had to pay extra for this. The cheese was quite strong so having two portions of this per Sandwich was quite overwhelming. The soup was vegetable but it could have been lentil or tinned soup. It was a bit tasteless.
Bar staff was friendly enough but wasn't going above and beyond with the service.

You dont pay foe the meal and drinks until the end. The menu looked good and there was a great range of beer. I had the Cairngorn Lager and would highly recommend it!!

This place was recommended to us by the owners of the guest house we were staying in.
The front of the pub is 'the local', so expect a few merry Scots! The rear is used as a restaurant.
I ordered the Cajun chicken which was very strong and almost overpowering. My husband ordered a burger
The only real negative was when we asked for the bill. We waited about 10-15 minutes, wondering what the issue was. We got fed up waiting and so grabbed our coats and walked to the bar to ask about the bill. We were surprised to see the barmaids/waitresses behind the bar having a good old natter and didn't seem to have any recall about the bill!
Overall it was a little underwhelming but don't let that put you off.

Very quiet when we dropped in during December (out of season) but the restaurant retains a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and offers a great selection of locally-sourced food. Enjoyed some pheasant for main course. All 3 courses cooked and presented well and delivered with friendly helpful service. WEll worth a visit.

Have been to this restaurant which is now called the Black Grouse Restaurant twice in the last week. We tried the fish and chips, the Steak and Cairngorm Ale Pie, the scampi and the burgers. All tasted wonderful and were beautifully presented. The hand cut triple cooked chips are amazing! The service is very professional and attentive. It was a pleasure to meet the chef Michael and we wish him the very best for the season. The menu has plenty of choice and the food is cooked from scratch on the premises using quality ingredients.

Stopped for lunch, looks like a transport cafe, but the food is tasty. A limited menu, and chips with most things, at least as an option. My lamb ragout, from the specials board was very tasty, although no peas appeared. Not the speediest service, but pleasant enough. Steps up to door, but also a ramp, toilets accessible.

Heading North to Inverness and stopped off for a Coffee and a Flapjack.
Nice location with lovely views. The staff were friendly and we were quickly served.
10.30 on a Saturday morning and the place was busy with travellers.
Slightly pricey at £7.00 for 1 coffee, 1 soft drink and 1 Flapjack.
However it's on the road without having to detour into one of the villages on route so time saved.
Will use again.

Dropped in here for dinner on Sunday night and although we did not have a reservation they kindly found us a table for two.
There is a good choice of food available and we found it to be of excellent quality and very reasonable priced.
Although the restaurant filled up quickly the staff coped well.
