During our stay in Kappeln we had to visit "die Alte Räucherei" in Kappeln because that is the place where you can eat delecious fish in a great atmosphere directly at the harbor of Kappeln. We had a beautiful table directly at the bar. We enjoyed our dinner with a glas of cider. I had the "Gourmet Teller" with filets of "Scholle" and king prawns served with a salad and fried potatoes. We had a beautiful time there and we are looking forward to our next stay in Kappeln and dinner at Duncan's (owner of Alte Räucherei) place!

This restaurant is next to the schlep bridge. The menu seems to be by far too big (meat, fish, pizza, daily choices). We were very positively surprised by the quality of our dishes and the size of the portions. Especially because the restaurant is not expensive. The service is very efficient, but not at all polite.

Attracted by the very cozy appearing outside look of that restaurant (Landarztkneipe Aurora in Kappeln, Schleswig-Holstein) I went in and ordered a typical North German meal called "Pannfisch" (local fish with bacon spiced potatoes all fried in a pan).
What came was a crudely arranged and unattractive little plate with surprisingly few and small fish filets and a much higher than acceptable number of black burnt potatoes along with a canteen style side salad done with some dull standard dressing. The whatever Bernaise sauce to come with that meal had not really hit the little pot but instead came with a dirty tea spoon. After a complaint to the admittedly elegant, professional waitress (an apprentice!!) the meal came back after a rush through the kitchen but again with more than enough "black fried potatoes" and it was still the mediocre arrangement of a very mediocre meal. But I let it pass, filtered out the worst black burnt fried potatoes and swore myself that I would warn my Tripadvisor buddies community of a wasted and even relatively expensive diner time experience like that. The place looks really cozy alright, some of the staff are doing very well but how could they compensate for less than mediocre canteen style food with upscale prices and all that even in the deepest off-season there...?!

We were recommended to try here by the owner of Speicher No 5 as she was fully booked the evening we arrived in Kappeln, and I am very glad we followed her recommendation. The food was excellent and in typically large portions, whilst the service was good. The hotel and restaurant are right by the marina below the bridge.
Recommended.

We are from Scotland and visit Kappeln every year. The Bierakadamie is a Olde World "Pub" with atmosphere, great friendly staff and local residents. We have travelled the world and the Akadamie ribs are some of the best anywhere. The bier, as everywhere in Germany, is wonderful. Try the Flensburg bier.very good. I have given the establishment a five star rating as and old Pub, not as a Restaurant..
When you are in the area, try the Gastatte Marcussen in Niesgrau.

In comparison to the more modern restaurants along the quay (Stark, Speicher No. 5, etc) this is a much more traditional option, but also a much more affordable one. Staff were nice, too, and very flexible when it came to gluten - worked out nicely.

Restaurant has a friendly ambiance with comfortable Seating inside or on the balcony. The menu is not frilly and offers plenty for the seafood seeking diner. My wife and I were both impressed with the quality of service, presentation and taste of our dishes. We agreed that it was a nice experience and great value for the price. If you have some room left you can share a delicious dessert too.

Super for breakfast or a quick lunch on business trip. The downtown is directly in front of the cafe and the waitress is helpful!

Excellent Lamb slightly spoilt by sauce that tasted like was made from powder. Nothing much to recommend if you have been weaned on proper Curry houses. Starter platter quite fair.
