Lovely place for Afternoon Tea

Reviewed By MattwalesNorthWales

Didn't stay here but as we heard great things about the afternoon tea, we decided to try it. Although there was no English speaker around it was no problem ordering and we settled down in the airy venue. Of course tea comes on a tiered display stand accompanied by a cold glass of champagne and your choice of tea or coffee. The cakes were colourful, varied and fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed spending a couple of hours getting fat

Wonderful hotel with Fantastic Customer Service

Reviewed By JennG287

I stayed by myself in the summer. The hotel is a little far out from the main area, but the hotel offers a free nightly shuttle to one of the villages and to the night market. The hotel has fantastic facilities - comfortable rooms, a huge outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a gym and more. All of the staff were wonderful, but I want to say a big thanks to Lynn Cui who made my stay extra special by upgrading me to an amazing suite and staying in contact with me throughout my stay. She helped me rent a scooter, gave me information about tourist spots, and was just fantastic the whole time I was there. In fact, I was having such a nice time that I didn't want to leave, so I changed my flight and extended for an extra night. Thanks Lynn and everyone there. I am looking forward to returning soon.

Luxury? They would need to understand Service first...

Reviewed By pbarroux

Hello, I went there the last week of December 2020. On the paper it looks nice, when you arrive it looks nice, but this is typical Chinese hotel: nice from the outside, but don’t look inside. Large investment done, 5 years old but it already looks like a 20 years old hotel due to poor maintenance. Look at the few pictures I posted from my personal swimming pool (I could say my large bathtub..) and you will understand. Do you expect that level of quality when you pay 350$ a night? But the quality is nothing in regards to the poor quality of service. Breakfast starts at 6.30am, at least officially. I am an early bird as I usually play golf early during my holidays. I had breakfast every morning of the week between 6.45 and 7.00 am. I never ever had any fruit juice, or yogurt, or milk, sometimes I was lucky the fruits were there... there are some personnel, but nothing is setup before at least 7.00 am. Do you expect that in a luxury hotel? And when you ask, they answer the most famous Chinese answer: dengyi’xiar (wait a little bit)... No manager visible, nobody to push the job to be done. Sunday afternoon I decided to go to the main swimming pool as I wanted to swim (impossible in the large personal bathtub). Then at 2.30 pm, Sunday afternoon, it was forbidden to swim. You know why? They were cleaning the swimming pool! Until 3.30 PM! Have you ever been to a luxury hotel that made the cleaning of the swimming pool in the middle of the afternoon? I never saw that until this Wanda hotel! One night I decided to order room service as I was working in my room. I ordered a soup and a meal. They serve me the soup in a pot, but I had no cup or spoon to drink it. I had to drink directly from the pot. Only chopsticks were available. And for the meal I had to pick directly from the meal plate as they didn’t give me any plate to eat. And of course when the dinner was delivered after one hour, all dishes were cold. The final step was my departure. I booked a car at 3.00PM, I came the night before to confirm, I came the morning at 10.00 to double confirm. But when I arrived at 2.55PM, there was no car. And nobody was moving to get one for me, nobody. Simply smiling. I had to shout and then finally they got a car for me at 3.20... So if you are used to be taken care in luxury hotels in south east Asia, please stay there and don’t visit Wanda hotel. They are centuries away from luxury standards. But the big gap is due to a poor management. There is no manager or they are sleeping all day long. If personnel is not managed permanently you will never get a good service in China. So to me the blame is not on the personnel but on the management of that hotel. For sure I will not repeat that once again!

Improvement recommended in several aspects

Reviewed By X4934LGmichaelo

The hotel experienced that I encountered is mixed. Beautiful environment with a nice entrance hall, lobby but during check in no one is able to speak basic English. I tried to communicate with around 5 people there... Fine, I kmow I am in China but I am choosing an international. Hotel branch in order not to have this issue.. I thought Pullman is international.. Obviously not here... Rooms are average and nothing special, but not matching the star rating to my opinion. Especially as every time the bathroom door is closed for an hour or so, this place smells strongly from the toilet...Another very embarrassing feature is the noise from outside staff at 7 a. m. Around the pool area when pushing some tools around. Furthermore and even worse I cannot get used to hotel staff spitting disgustingly load everywhere especially around the pool.. So u better wear footwear in that area... I don't understand Pullman management does allow their staff (and other Chinese guests) this disgusting behavior???especially in times of covid. Internet is not stable and breaks suddenly. Breakfast is standard with sufficient choice of western and Asian dishes. I recommend to choose a room on 7F towards the garden/pool, however only if people stop spitting and Management stops noise in the morning time by hotel staff.

Maybe yes , maybe not

Maybe it’s due to Covid. Maybe it has seen better days. But what you see in the pictures is not what you see when you arrive. The pool was badly maintained with stagnant water and debris. The room we were assigned had a musty smell though I have to admit the Ramada chain of hotels are very generous in size. Breakfast was a so-so affair. Yet with all these shortcomings, it wasn’t too bad after day 2 to come back to our room after a long tiring tour. Maybe, it’s the undeniably Ramada vibe that makes you feel you are coming back to something familiar.

Very good, but concerned about the animals

Reviewed By orangeman

I am an IHG member. I've received a little more from other IHG hotels, but I have not big complaints. The Good: I arrived at 11am and they gave me a room no problem. I was higher up and while my balcony view was obstructed, the view out my front door was better. The cleaning staff was very attentive. There were two manager-looking men who responded to me in English during meals (sorry I didn't get their names! I'm terrible with names!). The pool was fantastic. Honestly, had just wanted to chill and this was the place. The Bad: Most staff couldn't speak English which is fine, but caused some delays especially when I was looking for help to get a covid test for my flight back to Beijing. Breakfast was generally fine, but some days better than others. Bacon 2/9 mornings I was there, pepperoni the first day and then never again. Some days with orange juince, some days with "pine apple" juice (it's not apple juice). Not enough deck chairs by the pool. With 100s of rooms, they had 18 deck chairs. You also had to walk a long way to the back of the building to get towels. No drinks served at the pool as well. As busy and wonderful as it was, the pool area was neglected of service. Ostriches and peacocks in cages and tied to their tether in reception. Unacceptable. I can handle everything else I've said, but seeing these poor creatures in captivity while I was trying to relax really hurt the vibe. I hope IHG puts a stop to this, because otherwise I would definitely return.

Beautiful B&B, Private Dai Villa's nestled in the forest

Reviewed By Michael G

Yourantai is nestled on a hill surrounded by nature overlooking the Mekong/Lancang river and away from the hustle of the small city. Its a collection of old Dai houses moved and rebuilt on the property to international standards. The 'main' house serves as the 'lobby' of the property and is where guests have their meals, drinks, tea etc. The lobby is open air and has stunning views of the river and the city. The villa's are completely private and distributed across the property. There are two rooms in the main house. This is a great place if you want to escape a city and experience nature. Its a short walk down the hill to the river and within easy reach of all the attractions in the city by taxi/didi. Breakfast is included and you can choose Chinese or western style. Dinners can be arranged if you choose. And if you want to cook your own food, you are free to take over the kitchen. The staff are super friendly and will try to accommodate your requests. Such as take you to the nearest COVID test center. This is a great property for families or groups of friends to share the villa's. Or if you need to escape for highly private 1-1 business meeting. This property is not recommended for young children who need to be entertained by a pool or playground, it is, however, recommended for families with babies since the villa's are big enough and private. The grounds are covered in trees and tropical plants, it makes you feel like walking in the forest. Its alive with birdsongs. After discovering this place, I've been coming back often to escape the big cities and crowds of tourists. Gerard the owner, a former diplomat, naturist, and raconteur, and Manager Rongrong are consummate hosts. They are quick to take you through a tasting guide of local tea's or guide you through their wine selection (for purchase). You are free to bring your own wine and drink. Gerard can organize private forest hikes, and if you bring him along as a guide, he'll tell you all about the flora and fauna of the area. Pro-tip: this property is a great place to conduct private wine tastings...invite Gerard, he knows his wines. Suggest to bring your own cheese. Gerard can arrange the kitchen to pair the wines with specific foods and they bake their own bread.

Maybe I came during low season?

Reviewed By Shannon W

When I arrived there was no one to be found. I had to look for someone, and found a nice enough guy who spoke a bit of English, but not much (more than I know Mandarin, anyways). Stayed in the dorms, but was the only one. The entire building seemed empty. There were signs everywhere indicating they serve breakfast and food, but perhaps they don’t do that anymore. Was looking forward to the rooftop terrace, but it was really run down and had two camping tents inexplicably taking up all the space. The whole place could use a bit of a facelift and a deep clean, but if you just need a place to stay and want hot water, this place was fine. It didn’t seem to be a fully functioning hostel, but maybe it’s better during busier seasons.
