Isle of Mull Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Isle of Mull

August 1, 2017 Roseanne Arnett

A trip to the Isle of Mull isn’t complete without a visit to the Tobermory Distillery, one of the oldest distillers in the country, and a snort of their single malt Scotch. Mull was first settled around 3000 B.C., but thankfully much of the island’s rustic natural beauty has been preserved. Explore the deep-sea cavern of MacKinnon’s Cave, try to solve the mystery of the Lochbuie stone circle and play royal at the 13th-century Duart Castle.

Always great fish and chips to eat on the pier (or in the car if it's raining!). My mouth is watering just thinking about it as I write this!

Cafe Fish

This small inauspicious fish restaurant is fast gaining nationwide recognition as one of the best and most exciting places to eat in Scotland. With a superb location & stunning sea views on the upper floor of the Calmac building on Tobermory pier, and their own fishing boat landing fresh local shellfish - its an experience not to be missed. Just turn up unannounced for lunch, but book in advance for dinner. Lots on offer for non fish eaters too.

We had an early evening meal in Café Fish. Loved the setting (we were lucky with the sunset over the harbour), the atmosphere and the food, and the prices were reasonable. The staff were pleasant and very efficient, and that's where the problem was for us! We were served and ate this lovely meal in double quick time, an experience that others have similarly commented on. Back at our hotel (rather more quickly than we anticipated!) we mentioned this, and were told that Café Fish do aim to fit in 3 evening sittings (apologies if this is not true) and so things can feel rushed even in October. A shame really, given the food and the setting, we would have loved to have had the meal at a bit slower pace.

We had amazing, delicious food. Well presented - Thank you for a lovely dinner with your warm welcomed approach. I understand why you had excellent reviews you deserve it. The restaurant is in the middle of nowhere but we booked this as we had just done the Staffa tour. Unfortunately we were staying in Tobermory, the drive back was a little difficult dodging all the sheep, cows, deer and an otter!! I would recommend staying closer if you book. It is well worth a visit although a little pricey just a special dinner with the family.
Thank you

We visited on Monday evening and had a wonderful meal with excellent attentive service. The manager was very friendly and even told us the best place to see sea otters. We booked immediately for this evening and were looking forward to another excellent meal. On arriving at the restaurant the manager explained that the owner had closed the restaurant in a fit of pique and had locked out both the manager and the chef and cut off the phone and internet so they could not contact pre booked customers. We were unable to drive elsewhere so have been forced to have a picnic from the Spa shop as our final celebratory dinner on Mull. We are extremely unhappy.
Shockingly bad service. This little restaurant has been a real little gem but cannot remain so if the owner treats his chef, his manager and his customers in this cavalier fashion.

This was the nearest restaurant to our hotel and we visited twice for dinner. Definitely worth a visit for a meal.
Families are welcome right through the evening, so good for those on a family holiday.
Booking is recommended so we did. On the 2nd night no one was turned away but waiting in the bar might be needed.
The seafood is all excellent as are the meat dishes, starters are really superb and offer something a little different.
So I had the bruchetta, aubergine topping, can't praise it enough, so much so I had it both visits. The cod on a bed of seafood tagliatelle another excellent dish. If you want something more simple the fish and chips is good.
Drop in and have a meal, after booking, you won't be disappointed.

Galleon Grill

The Galleon Grill is a firm favourite in Tobermory. It specialises in Steaks, ribs and seafood all cooked on an open grill. It is only 10 yards from the harbour front.

We went to the Galleon Grill for dinner in search of some good red meat and they did not disappoint. We ordered a rack of lamb with stir fry veg and it was phenomenal. The service from the staff was very welcoming and extremely accommodating. I would highly recommend this restaurant when in Tobermory.

I bought a box with individual selected chocolates each for my elderly mother and Aunt and both say they are the best chocolates they have ever had. Not cheap but each chocolate was eaten which in itself is praise indeed.
