Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan Food Guide: 6 American food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Islamabad

Reviews on American food in Islamabad, Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan. Serving as the capital of Pakistan since the Sixties, Islamabad was built according to a carefully organized plan, divided into sectors along a grid of clean, tree-lined streets. The city is sheltered by the Margalla Hills, the foothills of the Himalayas and the home of rare species of leopard, deer, birds, and even porcupines. Several hiking paths end at Daman-e-Koh, a picnic spot with a splendid view of the entire city, including the massive modernist Faisal Mosque and even the Rawal Dam.

Nice restaurant with a European menu. It has a nice outdoor setting as well. I ordered beef steak and it was okay, nothing extraordinary. But other members of our party were very pleased with their orders. Many dishes are cheesy though; my steak wasn’t. There weren’t many diners for dinner, possibly because of tense political situation in the city on that day. When the manager and his assistant are dressed up in lounge suits, one can expect a hefty check. However, prices are reasonable for an upscale restaurant. Our average was Rs. 1550 (main course only and half of us ordered drinks). Waiters need some training though; twice someone dropped something heavy and once a waiter inadvertently blew a balloon. During dharna days I suppose this much can be expected.

Diner at Jason’s one evening as it’s one of the restaurants conveniently located within Marriott Islamabad. Ordered the seafood chowder, a prawn ceviche and a ribeye steak. The bread that came with the soup at the start of meal was fairly nice. However, the chowder was rather bland and there wasn’t much seafood inside; at least not that I could notice. The ceviche totally caught me by surprise as I didn’t expect the prawn to be diced and served that way with diced jalapeños and oranges. My understanding of ceviche is that the meat would be cooked through the acidity of the citrus fruit but in this version, the prawns were already cooked by heat. The piece of medium steak was very well cooked as I don’t like my steaks overdone and I was initially going to score this a Very Good. However, what’s missing is proper seasoning with salt and pepper which would have made all the difference. The restaurant isn’t lit up enough and felt really dark inside. Perhaps it’s part of efforts to cut down on electricity usage which i understand is a problem in Pakistan. There was only another single diner at the time I was having dinner. Service was okay.

This restaurant has it all- tasty food, reasonable prices, a quiet atmosphere, attentive staff and a wide variety of foods. If you are a low carb person, be sure to ask them NOT to bring the bread basket, because every piece in it is yummy and I can usually not resist. I love the salads, and have never gotten sick from their fresh veg. Try it.

Howdy's Son of a Bun double patty beef burger is probably the best thing in town. I have tried it several times and the taste of the beef with melted cheese in it doesn't change. They also have beef and chicken steaks as well as other continental items on the menu.

Chaaye Khana

The idea for Chaaye Khana was born from our love of tea. A cup of doodh patti in the evening, the Peshawari Kehwa after dinner, and of course, the morning cup of special tea to wake us up. This is what our culture is about, this is the benchmark of our ho

I must say that ambience is nice but dont expect great food and super service. Their server are untrained and food is OK. We ordered 3 eggs mexican omelette which was just plain with capsicum. The other dish was savouryz crepe which was filled with running cream and scrambled eggs. However if they improve on above both fronts then they can do good business as prices are reasonable.
