Ishpeming Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Ishpeming

April 15, 2018 Almeta Stockton

Ishpeming /ˈɪʃpəmɪŋ/ is a city in Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,470 at the 2010 census. This is down from a higher population in the 1950s and 1960s when the economically supportive iron ore mines employed more workers. A statue of a Native American figure, erected in 1884 in the small town square, is referred to as "Old Ish".

Huron Mountain Bakery of Ishpeming caters to the residents of the greater Ishpeming and Negaunee area. We offer a full line of donuts, bagels, breads, muffins, cakes and cupcakes, cookies, and sandwiches. What separates us from the Marquette store is the fabulous Wood Fire Pizza Oven! We make our own dough in house. Using fresh toppings and ingredients, we make the pizzas as they are ordered and bake them off in 15 minutes time(approximately). Come on by to see what we've done to the old building. You won't be disappointed!

You will think you died and went to heaven when you bite into any of these cupcakes. My favorite is the Hostess cupcake patterned after, you got it! Those hostess cupcakes you can buy at the grocery store. Only this one is bigger and creamier.
Yummy! The cakes for any occasion are luscious, and so are the many kinds of breads.

Congress Pizza

With all the hype about how awesome their pizza is, quite frankly I was disappointed. I love thin crust, but this was so bland - like saltine crackers. And the toppings were good, but not enough of them for how much you pay - $2 added per topping. The sauce was ok, but again bland. Service was quick and friendly. And the place was clean and inviting, and it appears there's outdoor seating for warm weather. There's only pizza and cudighi on the menu. Honestly, I don't think I'd go again and probably won't recommend.

We went to Jackson's pit with some friends of ours who told us about it and May and this is the place to go if you want to and absolutely fantastic Burger. I got the pit Burger which has ham and bacon on top as well as their house made barbecue sauce and a giant onion ring also if you get the chance order it with the sweet potato fries and a sweet dipping sauce which is made from cranberry and something else I can't identify but it was amazing. My daughter decided she was going to tempt fate and ordered their Ultimate Burger which is a one pound hamburger. My wife got a wrap and everybody was pleasantly surprised and absolutely full when we were done don't pass this place up if you get a chance

Midtown Bakery & Cafe

What a wonderful little bakery in downtown Negaunee! The interior of the shop can be best described as "coffee-shop comfortable". If you do order a coffee or a pastry, it would be a shame if you did not eat it there. The sweets that they sell are first-rate. I had a cranberry cookie that was simply delicious. Couple that with a great staff that serves you, and you have a wonderful little small town restaurant/bakery that any other community would drool to have! I was in the UP three years ago and found the shop by accident. I was totally impressed with the shop then and, much to my delight, nothing has changed.

Went to this restaurant and they have a pretty big variety menu. I had the Lake Perch which was very good. They run specials throughout the week with Tuesday night kids eat free with adult meal purchased, Wednesday being ladies night and Thursday being 1/2 off pizza night, just to mention a couple nights.

We are a American style restaurant and Brewpub. We have separate dining and bar areas with meeting space available.

We were staying at the RV park nearby, not expecting much from the looks of it outside, but there aren’t many choices in Ishpeming, especially open later in the evening. Inside ambiance not much better, it’s like a diner with a bar on one side. But the food was very good, though. I had the Chicken Parmigiana special, and Wife had the fish fry. Both were tasty. Prices are low, compared to what we urban dwellers are used to seeing – so it was a good meal, good value. We went back there a second time, had different food, and same positive results.

Hilltop Restaurant

Reviewed By Ashley L - Frederic, Michigan

I've had a few issues with this restaurant, but I figured I'd give them one more chance. First off, our waitress was pretty unfriendly. She sort of just threw our plates on the table and didn't ask if we needed anything else. She didn't bother checking on us, other than walking by and saying "Everything tasting ok?" She had 1 other table, other than us, she was not busy. We seen her "clean" a table off and you could see the table wasn't wiped well with food still on it. When I went to pay, she didn't say a word, I paid with a card, and she tossed my reciept to me to sign and she walks away..No thank you, no nothing. The food took less than 5 minutes to come out, which kinda worried me. I had the corned beef hash and eggs. The corned beef hash seemed as if it were just microwaved, and the eggs (over medium) were not to over medium. The hashbrowns were raw, and sausage gravy was so gross. I think this place focuses on getting stuff done fast. This is fine, but you can also give good quality food and service at the same time. I was a waitress, and I would never treat a customer this way. I bet this young lady doesn't make too much in tips.

Ralph's Italian Deli

Second generation Italian restaurant. We had house specialty Cudighi, our first time. Homemade Italian sausage patty (mild, med, or hot), and mozzarella cheese with condiments of choice - pizza sauce, mustard, ketchup, onion (cooked or raw), pepper, mushroom, and giardiniera. Custom order is no problem. Waitress was friendly. I had pizza sauce on mine, wife had mustard. Mustard was a bit too much for my wife, should have asked for lighter dose. Homemade hoagie roll. Also serve pizza and various pasta dishes, and a variety of other subs/hoagies, hot or cold, salads, & traditional UP pasties. Daily specials.
