Impressive hotel

Excellent hotel on the doorstep of Cork city centre. We were very well taken care of during our stay. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The food in the bar and restaurant was fantastic. We ate well and slept well. Absolutely no complaints. There is a good sized gym and swimming pool at the hotel. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the city centre. We parked the car on arrival in the underground carpark and then forgot about it for the rest of our stay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Good anchor point for a visit to the area but much better food on offer in town.

This hotel is in a good location to visit Westport as it is far enough from the town centre to not be noisy but still within walking distance. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and courteous, even the young girl who was training did an excellent job. We had an issue with our payment when we arrived but this was sorted out very efficiently and quickly. The room was very spacious as was the bathroom and very quiet also. The pool area could do with a bit of tlc as could the restaurant. I was nit impressed with our meal in the restaurant. I had the fish and chips and the batter was full of grease and very soggy. My husband ordered pan fried salmon and although he got salmon which was ok it must definitely was not pan fried. With a little bit more work this could be a brilliant hotel.

Dropped in for lunch and booked two rooms. Apparently you can do the Ring of Kerry in a day- it took us three days just because we found some amazing little places, and stopped off. This was the best find of our little Break. Lovely staff, good food and the owner was patient enough to give me the history of the paintings displayed. The rooms were lovely, the hotel setting was very nice. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay - they have the loveliest bar staff ever. Nice little pub across the way. Will definitely return and only sorry we missed the live music by a day.

“Magical” is the only word I can find, and I need something stronger

Reviewed By markgI9596KW

The Abbeyglen Castle Hotel has luxurious rooms in a castle with authentic old-world charm, plus delicious food and excellent customer service—but never mind. None of that is what we’ll remember from this trip. What we’ll remember is the absolutely magical experience of mingling with the other guests after dinner in the pub. The family that runs this rather large hotel takes the virtue of hospitality very seriously, and they draw almost every guest into the one-night community of the Abbeyglen Castle. I’m sure they work very hard at it, but they make it seem effortless so I’m equally sure it is a labor of love. It began at dinner, and it lasted for a solid five or six hours after that—five or six of the best hours I’ve ever spent at any hotel anywhere, and in nearly sixty years on the planet I’ve been in quite a few hotels. I see a bad review below, complaining about the music and laughter coming from the pub. As a foreign traveler myself, I would like to say to other foreign travelers (1) if you don’t want to meet any Irish people, maybe don’t come to Ireland; and (2) if you do come to Ireland even though you don’t want to meet Irish people, please stay someplace other than the Abbeyglen, because the magic will be wasted on you and you’ll only be taking up space in a bed meant for someone else. But for the rest of the readers—for most of us—I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

This was my first experience of this type of retreat and it definitely will not be my last. I was apprehensive about going alone but from the moment I left my shoes at the front door and entered the center I felt totally at ease. Dave and his team are very welcoming and the place is comfortable, spotlessly clean and the vegetarian food is delicious. The yoga studio has a wow factor with its large picturesque windows almost bringing the Burren Hills inside. Our yoga/mediation teacher for the weekend was Eleanor and she was amazing in every way. Very rude waitress

Reviewed By Breege M

I'm very disappointed as I have been to this restaurant several times before and was never spoken to the way as was this time Usually the staff are very pleasant and helpful but the I have not seen the waitress who was very rude and unprofessional there before. I had asked a customer at a table if a seat was free to use which he said it was as I was takin the seat this waitress barged over to me and told me how rude I was for taking the seat like that she continued to tell me I could not approach people and ask them for seats like that and by doing that that I was a rude person. I was appalled been told something like this and couldn't believe she had been so aggressive to me. I was so disgusted at been treated like this that my friends and I just left our drinks and went. I felt so upset as my friends and myself were out for an evening after a hard week. I can safely say my friends or myself will not be visiting that restaurant again. This is not a reflection on all the waitresss working there as they are lovely but the one with the dark hair and wearing a bun last night I have never met a ruder person
