Depot Nuevo Restaurant

Award winning Mexican Restaurant and Tequila Bar and Brewpub. Fresh made Mexican cuisine, fantastic margaritas and a 100 bottle craft tequila list featuring only 100% de Agave tequilas. Beginning in 2016 we began brewing our own beer.

Recommended by family whom we were visiting in Wilmette. He has visited Mexico frequently, as have we, so we are always cautious about trying new Mexican restaurants as most are disappointing. Depot Nuevo does not disappoint! The tacos are delicious and are served in freshly grilled soft corn tortillas The salsas taste fresh. The huge selection of tequilas and mescals appear in very good margarita variations. Best of all is the decor - no giant sombreros, just classy black and white photos of Mexico itself, agave harvest etc.

Warm room, welcoming and attentive staff and an ecletic menu with a Latino twist. The chilaquiles have a nice burst of heat and Derek's Favorite Eggs come with a nice spicy chorizo. Many other more standard items on the menu for the heat adverse. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food.

cash onlyThis is a tiny place -- with a center counter seating six; four tables against a wall with one long bench (which COULD seat up to four patrons each), and a stand-up window counter. The tables have orange metal chairs with backs, but the counter has stool (i.e.,backless) seating. This is a counter-service restaurant -- you order and pay at the register and the cashier/waitress brings your food, along with the tasty home-made red and green salsas. The colourful gecko tiles and murals brighten up the space.lots of vegetarian choices. The taco fillings are served in double corn tortillas. You may find that two tortillas overwhelm the taco flavours. You can remove one tortilla without destroying the taco.Everything we tried was very good. We didn't order the guacamole, but did watch other diners pick the dried cranberry garnish off the top.Mexican Jarritos sodas and delicious horchata. No bathroom, but a huge container of hand sanitizer next to the huge glass beverage dispenser filled with lemon waterstreet parking

Where else in Evanston can you get a Sloppy Joe with a traditional chocolate malt (not to be confused with a shake, never confuse a malt for a shake) on the side. My grandkids love this tiny corner eatery, and so do I.

Taco Diablo

Many times we have passed this restaurant on our many visits to Evanston. We are so disappointed that we did not try this place sooner. The atmosphere is Mexican with an industrial vibe. The lunch was excellent. We enjoyed the ubiquitous chips and salsa to start. The red salsa was my favorite as it had a slightly smoky taste to it. My husband and I sampled four different tacos and loved them all, particularly the lamb barbacoa and the chicken mole. It isn't every Mexican restaurant that even serves mole, so this was a real treat. We will definitely return next time we are in Evanston.
