This Is one of our favourite restaurants in the Ardennes ad overall. We come here every 2 months and we have never been disappointed.Last time we took the agnus-beef and the meat was georgous, very tastfull and a good large portion. One of the best pieces of meat we ever tasted. Also the "scampi of the house" are splendid and juicy.Prices are very reasonable, service is good and friendly. On a sunny day you can enjoy your meal on the Terrace close to the river "the Ourthe".If you're in the neighbourhood, this restaurant is not to miss.Make reservation, this place is very popular.

We chose this restaurant based on existing tripadvisor reviews, and we were not disappointed! We reserved a table for a rather quiet Thursday evening and went full out by ordering the 5 course Gourmet menu with accompanying wines. We enjoyed every course in our dinner, and overall had a wonderful time.

Very much Chinese food for a European palate but the food was good and the portions generous. It's a decent local restaurant in a small Belgium town and Hotton's lucky to have it but... the service, while efficient, bordered on the miserable.

Les Pieds Dans le Plat

My husband and I spent an evening at this restaurant in August 2012. I can attest that this eight course meal (from appetizers through desserts) was the finest meal I've ever eaten. The seared foie gras, veal sweetbread, sauces, etc were each outstanding. The chef (Jean Michel) was very kind and visited with us after dinner. He told us about the history of the area , including the Battle of the Bulge right in the immediate area. I am not the most adventurous eater (my husband even less so), but I am so glad that I strayed out of my comfort zone of typical American fare to try these gourmet items. The wine, bread and desserts were also exceptional. The house-made madeleines were perfect with coffee at the end of the meal. Try the Touring Menu which changes monthly.

This place has been a mainstay in Hotton for a long time. My dad lives in Hotton and eats here a few times a week. Over the years, I've been here more than a dozen times as well. It's always consitent in quality. The food is good, people are friendly and the prices reasonable. It's a family run place and it shows in all the right ways.

We went there seeing great reviews on trip advisor. The concept itself (you can cook your meat by yourself on a barbecue installed in a table) is interesting however we went for beef prepared by the cook. The portions were huge and the prices were OK. Unfortunately either the quality of meat or the cook's skills weren't perfect. The beef wasn't tender. The service was great!

Quartier Latin

Reviewed By Anjes M

After Reading the many excellent reviews we decided to dine at Quartier Latin. The menu does indeed look very promising with a wide variety of interesting options. But please read on:
Starters:
- The Carpaccio (which incidentally was cut from a mass-produced roll of processed meat) had been frozen completely instead of only partially to enable it to be sliced thinly. The result was a tasteless, soggy dish. One of the main ingredients of Carpaccio, lemon juice that chemically 'cooks' the raw beef, had been omitted.
- The Crab Tourteau was supposed to have been served on a bed of avocado mousse. Apparently it's very hard to find ripe avo's in Belgium in July, because the avo we found underneath the crab was so hard that one could not even drive a fork into the little blocks that it had been cut into. The chef is probably aware that unripe avocado is very bitter, because to compensate for the bitterness he had added chopped fresh beans(?).
It's the combination of the creamy mousse with the crab that would make this dish a treat. A missed opportunity.
- The Mussels contained a closed specimen. That is a sure sign that the mussel has been dead for a while and it should have been discarded. Upon opening it we found our suspicions confirmed. Dead mussels are highly poisonous and it is a disgrace that one is served (to a child no less!) at what is supposed to be a four-star restaurant.
Main courses:
- Duck in orange sauce (an all-time winner which is also very easy to prepare): the sauce was very tasty. The duck... had been precooked and re-heated just prior to being served. The sure give-away is the rainbow-coloured sheen on the slices as well as the structure of the meat. The layer of fat on top of the duckbreast, which can be so yummy if served crunchy and well spiced, was sogggy and greasy.
- Filet Americain: a Belgian specialty. Unfortunately the chef chose to prepare this dish in a blender, with the predictable result: an undefinable sticky goo. On top of that a number of key ingredients had been omitted which left it bland and tasteless. Another missed chance.
In short: in our opinion the 'chef' is clueless and is better suited for a career at The Golden Arches. It's a rare talent that can turn such excellent ingredients into such poor dishes.
Our advice: give this restaurant a miss. Instead, find one of the many typical Belgian 'mom and pop' restaurants that serve really excellent food. At least until the proper chef returns whom we read about in so many of the other reviews.

We went for the "weekend gastronimique" which included dinner, breakfast and lunch. For dinner as for lunch all dishes were nicely presented and accompagnied with a lovely glass of wine. Flavours during lunch were better than in the evening menu, overall we had some excellent dining.
