Hersonissos Resorts | Places to Stay in Hersonissos

Sandy, peaceful beaches and ancient ruins beckon travelers to Chersonisos, a one-time Roman port on the island of Crete. This is a family-friendly place, with plenty of activities for kids. The Lychnostatis Open Air Museum gives you the chance to explore the trades and lifestyles of early islanders. Exhibits include a herbarium, olive oil and wine presses and workshops on ceramics, shoe making and weaving. The aquarium showcases local sea creatures, as do the town's many traditional cafes, though in a completely different (and more delicious) manner.

Amazing hotel

We have just returned from a week here. Cannot fault it. Location perfect - just a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport. Everything was immaculately presented at the hotel. Rooms spotlessly clean with toiletries provided. Fully stocked fridge mini bar. Staff friendly. Food excellent - wide choice of restaurants and all of very high standard. The food at the main buffet restaurant was also of high quality with lots of lovely choice. There’s also the bonus of the beach cafe, creperie and snack bar. 3 very clean pools catering for kids, those wishing to relax or for those that preferred music. All pools had a bar serving food. There was evening entertainment every evening and activities in the day if you wanted to join in such as pool Zumba, darts and beach volleyball. The beach is just across the road and there’s a little land train (not related to the hotel) which gives you a 2 hour tour of some of this beautiful island. We’d love to return to the Mitsis Laguna. Highly recommended!

Absolutely beautiful hotel

The most beautiful hotel, such a big property but so well maintained. Gardens and walkways are beautiful. Plenty of pools, lovely beach. Traditional in style but not at all dated. The food, even in the buffet restaurants is ridiculously good quality with so much variety. Even snacks at the water park are outstanding. Cocktails are good quality and they don’t hold back on the spirits! Loads for kids to do. A short walk takes you to some nice beach bars if you fancy a walk out (one with a small kids area, perfect for us). I just can’t compliment this hotel and how it is run enough! Would love to return one day.

Stayed in May with family of 8. The resort is fantastic, with great buffet and great al a carte restaurants. There is a water park attached to the hotel which is out of this world, you can spend all day there. Bar staff were brilliant especially the outside bars, were nothing was too much. A bit confusing at first in what bars and eating places you can use if staying at Stella Palace as shared with other Stella hotels. Lovely pools and good amount of sun beds. Highly recommended

Plenty of choices of food, very tasty (Apfel strudel, OMG!!!). George and staff very attentive and make everyone welcome. Reception staff always helpful. We had a car but still used courtesy bus to go to old town and new. Well located for journeys easy and west. We love Elounda and Plaka and Agios Nikolais is well worth a visit. Myself and my Partner stayed at the Nana Princess for a week, we felt welcomed from the moment we walked through the doors. I was 32 weeks pregnant and they couldn’t have done enough for me, all the staff were very friendly and constantly making sure I had everything I needed. We would also like to say a big thank you to ‘Konstantinos’ at the pool bar, he was such a generous and kind man who went out of he’s way to make our time there extra special. Every staff member did everything they could to make our stay perfect, for example making me steak at the seafood restaurant so we were able to have a beautiful sea view for dinner. We also visited the spa while on our stay which was out of this world, my partner said he has never had such a relaxing experience, ‘Angelous’ gave the most deep and amazing massage. We already cannot wait to book again but for longer, I honestly couldn’t recommend this hotel enough.

Third Visit All Change

Reviewed By mjacobsbros

Just back from our third visit to Nana beach (2011 & 2016 were our last visits), travelling with 3 other couples, one of which visited with us in 2011. Arrived after 11pm and were quickly checked in and driven to our room (346) and told where we would find food and drinks available for us. The rooms are now absolutely huge and tastefully furnished. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment and it shows! Lovely large bathroom with a great walk-in shower, a double sized oblong sink with duel taps and wonderful towels! Always important to have good sized towels. Beds are very comfortable and the huge TV is very cleverly disguised as a picture on the wall. Highlight for me was the air-conditioning was on and worked very well. All the buildings/rooms in the grounds have now been painted a sandy colour in place of the previous white and the beautiful bougainvillea flowers that used to climb up the buildings have been removed, so to this end it has lost some of its previous “Cretan village” charm but I can understand why the changes and updating of the hotel in view of the Nana Princess next door plus the other 2 or 3 new hotels alongside. The food offered in the main restaurant was generally of a good standard and with plenty of choice but unfortunately most of the time hot food was at most tepid. The current arrangement of staff serving you from behind Perspex screens does not work well but I assume as more covid restrictions are relaxed this will change in time. The main buffet restaurant is in a huge new complex containing the sports pavilion and indoor pool and gym areas. Due to the high ceilings the noise was incredibly loud, not helped by the sheer number of young children doing what all young children do from time to time – cry, scream and throw tantrums. There is an adults only area in the restaurant but this is furthest away from the food counters so more cold food. We used the main restaurant for breakfast but for 4 nights of our 7 we ate in the themed restaurants and one evening went to Stalis for dinner just to escape the bedlam. We were told that a few days after we due to leave another restaurant within the grounds (La Pergola) would be opening for breakfast, I guess to spread the load. Of the A La Carte restaurants we were able to book our favourite was the Italian, Azzuro, followed by Meat In. The evening we ate in Thalassa we felt the service was very rushed with all dishes coming out more or less at once. I guess as this is the first full open season after all the lockdowns the hotel is still feeling its feet, particularly following such a major refurbishment. All the pools are very different and very clean. We were disappointed that what was the adults only pool tucked away at the edge of the grounds is now referred to as the “relaxing pool” and open to all. Sometimes it’s nice to get away to somewhere quite with no music etc. The only adult’s only pool is the indoor pool in the sports complex. For families the pools are perfect as each area is suited to children of different age groups. The water park was great fun – we tried all the flumes! The entertainment was actually very good for a family hotel, lots of games and mini discos for children and different entertainment around the hotel plus a separate stage area with bar close to the sea front (Anemos bar) with entertainment more suited to adults that went on past midnight. All the staff work very hard and nothing is too much trouble, they are a credit to the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, once again, at Nana beach and our friends who were first time visitors said they would certainly return and I know myself and husband will. My husband told me to think of it as a new hotel we hadn’t been to before rather than looking at what was different and what had disappeared during the refurbishment. A great hotel offering first class facilities.

The Village Resort and Waterpark

On a hillside above the Cretan coast, within walking distance of Hersonissos town, the Village Resort & Waterpark. The hotel's low-rise buildings are built up the slope, with tree-lined paths and grassed areas between them. There's a choice of terraces where you can sit and relax with a drink from one of the poolside bars. The hotel has a range of swimming pools. As well as the main outdoor pools, there are two children's pools, water slides and a lazy river. You can have a more relaxed swim in the adults-only swimming pool, which is set on its own at the top of the hill. There's a buggy service on site so guests can have a lift up to the adult pool. As well as the poolside bars, there's a main bar in the hotel and a snack bar for kids serving food and fun soft drinks. There are two restaurants, offering a range of international cuisine. The resort has a gym and a spa (for guests over 16 only) where you can have a massage, and the hotel runs fitness classes. The family-focused resort holds regular entertainment suitable for all ages. Star Beach is a short walk away, and the popular seaside resort of Hersonissos is also within walking distance of the hotel. The town has a choice of bars, clubs and restaurants, as well as an older part further inland. If you want to explore more of Crete, you can rent a car through the hotel reception.

Few let downs

Reviewed By alisone118

The hotel itself was nice and clean and the majority of staff are polite especially the entertainment team and Gina, she was lovely and always stopped for a chat with myself and my daughters. The restaurant staff were also very good, especially in the onsite Italian. The pools can get very busy and it's hard to find beds, we had an incident on one occasion when a game of water polo was being played near us, the ball was knocked over near us several times which resulted in all of our drinks being knocked over and spilling on our clothes, shoes and my bag and almost hitting my daughter in the face twice. When I complained about this I was told it was an activity pool so accidents happen, the lifeguard who was supervising the game didn't even apologise. The food was OK, but not a lot of choice if your not a big meat eater other than salad. I would highly recommend the Italian, we went twice and had amazing food and service ?

Almost perfect

Reviewed By Honest_CraigC

Two adults and our 6 year old son had the pleasure of staying in a family room with individual pool booked through JET2 for 10 nights from 28th May. The hotel is amazingly clean as you would expect in a five star resort and the sister hotel next door was too. The food and drink was fantastic and was available pretty much all day from one place or another from 07:30 through to 21:30. Try the wok and chopsticks as the food in there was great and the lady waitress was fantastic but if forgot her name :-(.Please note that you can only book once per 7 days! This wasn’t clear when we booked the holiday. Fortunately the food everywhere else was great. If you have kids then you will spend a lot of time (I would imagine) next door at the Lyttos Beach water park that starts up at 09:45. If you do have kids you may want to consider actually staying there as it definitely seemed more family/kid friendly. As all the kids clubs are ran from that hotel. You can easily get a sun lounger and there is no need to reserve like some people were doing. The hotel caters more towards our German friends but everything is in English. For example, the kids disco - whilst they spoke in English, the songs were clearly German as we had no idea what was going on but the German families clearly knew the songs/moves etc. - understandable as I would say 90% of the guests were German from what I could pick up. Not an issue though all good fun. We used the spa treatments and although pricy, were very good in fantastic facilities. The gym and pool area looked great but we didn’t make use of these. There is a small shop but it’s way overpriced…take a little walk down the sea front to the right for much more choice and value for money. We hired a car from the guys on the front desk and the car was great without any issues although the guy offered one price the night before and then the lady altered it the day after and the car we thought we were getting was altered at the last minute so just be careful and only pay once you know for sure what you are paying for. You will read some reviews about the service being a bit slow or poor and to be honest it is slightly, but I could see there was lots of training new staff so I can see this improving shortly. The best staff that were attentive to us were Ewelina in the main restaurant, she is by far the best server as she is attentive and friendly which unfortunately isn’t to be said for everyone - some look annoyed whilst doing their jobs and some just walk straight past your dirty plates/glasses from a previous course which was very poor for 5 star hotel. Another good staff member is Marina in the main bar, she will make you the most lovely cocktails and serve them up much more quickly than one of the guys who asks you what you want whilst still serving the person in front and then forgets what you want so you have to repeat yourself which is utterly mind-boggling! Some of the materials used don’t lend themselves well to being wet - for example in the toilets under the lift/elevator area. I’m not sure if there is anything that can be done but the floors there are lethally slippy. I would like to come back here but would like to see some of the reviews confirm that the hotel has addressed some of the concerns mainly surrounding the service levels of previous reviewers. Once this is sorted it would be truly perfect. One other area for improvement is that we had to search out every bit of info. No info pack in the room, no phone numbers etc. no info on when the pools operate, when the restaurants operate and what themed evenings they had on and where to reserve a table. No room service info either. Nothing about what entertainment was on and where. We found an easel round the other side of one pool that we just never walked past on the last day but I had asked for the info from guest services but if I hadn’t then this was supposedly the means by which they expected everyone to know what was happening with the entertainment. It would be good if info could be put through the television sets, that way it’s easily updatable and you can see what’s happening and when…like they do on cruise ships ;-). Overall, very good and wouldn’t have an issue recommending.
