We never tried Russien food so were unable make any comparision. The food are suit to our taste. The interior design really impressive. The staffs are polite and friendly. Prices are reasonable. The restaurant has running the business since 1901.Visited on Dec 2018.

Hua Mei Western Restaurant (ZhongYang Main Street)

I guess the building is actually original and quite old, but the interior is a cheap modern "imagineering" of an early 1900s Russian/Western interior. A lot of "gold"... But I guess the original décor had no way to survive the cultural revolution and other messy historic events. The food comes in small servings and are meant to be eaten the Chinese way: shared over the table. Not one dish per person. Make sure you order a variety of dishes to be able to pick something of everything. The food itself is not special in almost any way. Not authentic Russian more than to its name if anybody really expected that. No kid-friendly dishes. But the borsjtj was ok and the prices reasonable. They can make reservations if you speak Chinese.

Located next to the river, at end of the pedestrian shopping street in Harbin, this restaurant has a good location.Wanting to try some Russian food, we decided to give this restaurant a try. The menu is fairly extensive, and contains mostly beef and pork dishes. It's also written in Chinese, Russian, and English, so you shouldn't have problems figuring out what is what. Unfortunately, waiter seems disinterested when asked for recommendation, and seemed annoyed when we asked about their "sandwiches".Most entrees were in the 40 to 60 rmb range, and the soups were about 22.Fortunately, the food were generally pretty good. The borsch soup was flavorful and hot. The beef stew was just a small bowl of beef, while the beef tongue was much bigger in portions. Food is very rich and hearty, like most food in the area.
