My wife and I traveled to Alkmaar and had dinner in a lovely Scottish restaurant with a huge selection of whisky. We both decided to have the "surprise" three course meal with whisky accompaniment. What a great choice! We started with a terrine and a whisky made for the twenty fifth anniversary of The Hielander and it was the best of the three. For our main course we had beef from a highlander cow and Haggis. The beef was delicious and so was the Haggis. They make their own Haggis at the restaurant and it was great! The dessert was a mixture of berries, oatmeal and cream. What an incredible meal and I believe it was the owners, husband and wife, that served us and they were awesome. He explained each whisky and the meals perfectly and enhanced our visit. The ambience was lovely. They really created a lovely Scottish pub in North Holland. If you find yourselves in Alkmaar, like we did, you will have a spectacular meal and a wonderful time at The Hielander.

It's easy. You walk up to the counter and you order fries. You can order from a selection of toppings, such as mayonaise (hey, it's Dutch!) and you get what you need: perfectly cooked, golden brown fries, the way they should be.
This is by far the best place in the area to get the fries. No Seating, no fancy restaurant, just a paper bag with fries in them. What more could you want?

We had dinner at Stroming because of the Dutch Restaurant week. This gives people the opportunity to sample a new restaurant at a fixed price for a three course dinner. This means that the menu is also fixed. We were very happy with our choice.
There were two extra courses that could be added to the menu. I switched from a sweet dessert to cheese at no extra cost. We dined with friends from Paris who are pretty critical about restaurants/food and they loved it.
The service was professional. We took the "wijnarrangement" which means that you get a fitting wine with every meal. Though this was rather expensive as compared to the price of the food, we were very satisfied with the choices and the explanations we got from the waiter.

We ordered take out while visiting friends in Heerhugowaard. We decided to have Greek. The portions are rather large, we did our best to finish all but did not succeed. We ordered Gyros, Keftedakia, Moussaka,filled pastry with I believe spinach and cheese. We received salads with this and bread. The garlic sauces and the tzaziki were absolutely delicious. We also received a complimentary bottle of wine and that was a very nice gesture.
Overall we ended up eating Greek the day before we left the Netherlands. we will visit our friends again in the near future and i am sure we all will love to eat out here again.

A nice night out. I love that this restaurant is right next to the bioscoop (movie theatre) so makes the perfect "dinner and a movie" date. The atmosphere is easily a 5-star. Very warm, cozy, romantic with candles and low lighting. I love the wine display and stacks of wood behind the bar. Gives such a lovely atmosphere. Really happy with our Couple surprise dish. I love sampling all the different flavours.

This restaurant is situated about 50 meters away from the tourist attraction 'Broekerveiling' an former floating greenery auction.
It's a small but cozy restaurant. Very friendly hosting together with an excellent menu and high quality food. We tried the 'surprise diner of 4 courses' combined with a 'wine menu'. It's a must have and guarantees a splendid evening for a couple or with friends.

This restaurant is a restaurant that has good and tasteful food, but with a little bit of high prices. The service of the staff is oké, but not that special.This restaurant had a good location if you want to have a diner before going to see a movie, because it's near the cinema. The choice of food is poor and I preferred some more options. I must say that what they served, tasted very nice. I chose a fish dish and it was prepared good. I enjoyed my time here and maybe I will go back again.

Easy going friendly staff who look like they enjoy their work :) good food and drinks over all an enjoyable family meal, thanks to the staff for a nice evening. Oh yes and the food was great too.

The food usually is very good. But last week we ordered one large combination box and my wife got really sick. Ate nothing else that could have caused this.
Called the restaurant and the guy only told us he always uses fresh fish and guarantees the quality. Simply did not believe us.
Not even one single sign of sympathy or excuse.
Never experienced a service this bad.

As a Greek living to the Netherlands have tried many Greek Restaurants around. This one has one of the best quality and quantity. Gyros which is a traditional meat plate was really good and feta saganaki even better! You have to try it!
