This restaurant is located in an industrial area, so not your typical beachfront setting. However, you will definitely need a reservation as it was full and had people waiting the night we went. This is one of those new Asian fusion restaurants with a mash-up of different Asian food culture with ramen, pho, thai, etc. We arrived at our reservation time and were seated promptly. Our waiter was gracious and informative. There are quite a few shared plate items in addition to the actual entrees. We could have filled up on the shared plates. We had the pork belly buns, which were delicious, and the Chinese broccoli, which tasty - more like sautéed bok choi. We had the Lahaina Fried Soup, which was not actually soup but was really good, and the Pad Thai, also good. We weren't too adventurous with our choices. The tables are really close together, so you are practically eating with your neighbors - but that also allowed you to see the plates and entrees they were getting - and all looked wonderful. I'd say this place is very moderately priced for Maui, but the portions were large. We enjoyed it and enjoyed the leftovers the next day!

We were with some friends on a Saturday night celebrating an anniversary. What a disaster. To make a long story short, the dual fish dish was overcooked and the short ribs were dry and tough. My meatloaf was hard. We asked for extra items that we didn't receive. We wanted to just let the server know how the meal was and his suggestion was to get us more sauce. What??? For dry food, pour more sauce over it? To celebrate our friends anniversary, they received a card that had all the servers signed. That was it. You spend that much money on food and drinks and this is what you get. No wonder Roy sold out. It was nice that management comped both meals without anyone of us asking. Maybe because I checked in on yelp for the free chocolate souffle. They knew the screwed up and acknowledged it. That evening was suppose to be a joyous celebration. It was disappointing.

We had eaten here previously and felt it was acceptable, a few years ago. This time we ordered takeout, 3 rolls. The Tempura roll had tempura that wasn't freshly prepared in it. The Spicy Salmon skin roll was OK and the unagi roll was fine, nothing special; the prices seemed high for the quality. We come from the San Francisco Bay area where we get excellent, fresh sushi frequently (even served at our wedding), so expected this to continue to be high quality, but not to be. We gave this a rating of poor, because the quality was average but the price was not worth it.

We arrived on Maui in the afternoon, checked into our hotel and made our way to Sansei Sushi for our first meal. It did not disappoint. I had read to be in line 15 minutes before opening time. If you have reservations, stand in the line to the right, if you don’t stand in the line to the left. We did have reservations and got right in. We wanted to do the happy hour which is 25% off. Be prepared to order quick though. You only have a certain window to get your food ordered. We had a number of dishes and all were fantastic. Butter fish and calamari were standouts. Their Flying Fish Roe/Tobiko Nigiri was a dream come true! (pic attached).A wonderful way to start our weeklong magical stay in Maui!Aloha and mahalo for taking the time to post your excellent review and comments. We appreciate them very much. And we appreciate you choosing Sansei for the start of your Maui vacation!
