Minit Stop is Maui's version of 7Eleven though they're not open 24 hours. The've even expanded to the Big Island with several locations. Most have gas stations but all of them have kitchens serving their famous fried chicken and potato wedges. This location in the Akaku Center on Dairy Road is the chain's first. Parking is adequate. On top of the usual convenience store offerings and their fried chicken, they've expanded their food menu to include a handful of local plate lunches like roast pork, hamburger steak, katsu, fried fish, tacos, chicken adobo and several styles of bento (pre-packed lunch trays). Personally, I like their fried chicken. They're sold either by the piece, in combinations, by the bucket, or catering-sized trays. They also do wingettes, drummettes, and just chicken skin too. The potato wedges are battered and deep-fried; very good and hearty. A few years ago, I had their Portuguese Bean Soup at their Wakea Ave. and Central Ave. locations which were insanely tasty!TIP:If you have an HFN (Hawaii Fueling Network) card, you can fill up here, paying the same discounted rate as you'd pay at an HFN station. The only problem is you won't know the price until you receive your statement as the discounted prices aren't posted.OVERALL:Support local, good prices, rewards card, tasty fried chicken.

We stopped in after completing the Road to Hanna circuit. This place doesn't really know what it is. Located in a strip mall, curb appear is definitely lacking. The interior is set up with basic tables and two bar/counters for eating. We sat at the bar side which is directly across from the sushi counter. Again, second thoughts past through our head as to the side effects of eating here. But as it was late, our options extremely limited. The bar maid said it was a joint venture of two brothers or friends each wanting something different. Looking around I wouldn't be sure this was even a local hangout, dirty bar, questionable raw seafood...However we continued and ordered several raw dishes. Each were decent nothing to scream about. And, surprisingly, neither of us were visited by the diarrhea fairy.

Genki Sushi is a great rotating belt sushi chain in Hawaii. The same wherever you go in the islands. The best sushi and great fun for kids.

First timer and I was happy with the selection on their menu. The combos are plentiful and good variety ($17) We tried the shrimp tempura, chicken katsu and teriyaki steak & tonkatsu, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef. Kids had Saimin ($9) and California roll. Meals come with miso soup or tossed salad. I will be going back!

We had heard good things about TJ's and drove over there on a late afternoon to stock up on food over the weekend. Very wide assortments of bentos and bento fixings including a good chicken Katsu and garlic chicken. In addition to the premade bentos you can go through a hot table and order ala carts and pay by quart or pint sizes. Plus they take credit cards. There is also an impressive display case of poke but we didn't try any.

Steamed butterfish shared by my business buddy and I with a couple of small bowls of white rice was a lot of food! The fish was perfectly done, along with grilled daikon and lots of freshly sliced green onion stalks and covered in a sweet teriyaki-style sauce that was really yummy! The Korean-style food we tried here was not too spicy (twice as nicey) agreed the two of us. Lots of little booths for seating; nice oasis for a beer. Lots of parking on the Lono Avenue side of the old Kahului Shopping Center. Can't wait to go back and try something else.

Ichiban (number one in Japanese) is number one with locals for sushi and Japanese food. I've never had fresher hamachi (yellow tail) sushi or ahi sashimi (red tuna). The yellow tail melted in my mouth and the ahi was like butter. But there's not only sushi on the menu - there's tempura, stir fry, udon noodles, and more. But I just love their sushi. It's good to get there a little early on weekends or be prepared for a wait because it can get crowded and service can be slow. The restaurant is a bit worn around the edges but the quality of the food outshines all else.

Restaurant Matsu is located in an area that is tucked away and not easily located by visitors to Maui. It is more of a place that locals visit.We stopped by for lunch and ordered our meals at the counter... the dishes were brought to our table.Very good tasting and a little high for what it was.... but that is Maui.

Great lunch right after getting off airplane. Easily accessible Dairy Rd location.We loved the sushi roll special with tempura fried jalapeno slices. Scrumptious! Hubs loved his seafood stuffed fish. Great service at the bar. It's not a huge place, but they serve great food with good service. Simple and straightforward...not pricey or pretentious. Would stop here any time!
