Hanga Roa Hotels | Places to Stay in Hanga Roa

September 7, 2022 Renato Branum

The epic Moai stone statues that stand guard over Easter Island are among the main attractions of this remote and lonely part of the world. Hanga Roa is Easter Island’s commercial hub and its only village. The airport is here, as are several restaurants, guest houses and hotels. Use it as a base for island adventures, which may include trekking, exploring white sand beaches, snorkeling, diving, visiting archaeological sites or even your own private spiritual journey.

Perfect Rapa Nui Retreat!

My cousin and I enjoyed a wonderful 4 night stay at Hare Uta in February 2020. We loved this beautiful property. Our favorite things about this hotel were: (1) The onsite atmosphere is one of complete relaxation. The beautiful grounds coupled with the adorable chickens roaming around was wonderful. This is the perfect place to chill out. We loved it! (2) The staff was incredibly helpful! Special shout outs to Consuelo who made multiple dinner/taxi reservations for us and Amelia who always warmly welcomed us to the hotel restaurant. (3) Tour guide Tito - We arranged for 4 day tours with onsite guide Tito. We learned so much about Rapa Nui during our outings and really appreciated him sharing his knowledge and insight with us.

Nayara Hangaroa

Nayara Hangaroa, the newest hotel property on Easter Island located just a 5-minute walk from the island's only town, Hanga Roa. It features 75 elegant and smartly decorated rooms, the Poerava and Kaloa restaurants, the deluxe Manavai Spa, an outdoor swimming pool and its Vaikoa bar, a reading room and excursion center, a 60-person auditorium, and 300-person conference space for cultural seminars, dance, and music presentations or corporate meetings. Nayara Hangaroa sits high on a dramatic, steep-sloped cliff facing the Pacific Ocean, and all guestrooms boast panoramic windows and terraces with sea views. Nayara Hangaroa offers flexible programs from Bed & Breakfast to Full Board packages that include lodging, excursions, and all meals and beverages. Each detail of the hotel's architectural design and functionality is cutting edge. Inspired by the Orongo ceremonial village and site of the island's Bird Man ritual, all of the walls are curved and topped with grass roofs. They favor natural light and landscaping of local flora and fauna that allow the hotel to artfully blend into its natural environment.

The Best Option in Hangaroa (Easter Island)

I had the chance to spend one week in this superb hotel in the magic island of Hangaroa. An all-inclusive upscale experience with honest price and for many atributes a one-of-a-kind option. From spacious rooms to gourmet à la carte meals served to impress the taste and the eyes. The staff was super friendly and even tricycle rentals, the best way to circundate and truly know the island were included in the full board package. I strongly recomend.

Highly recommended - brilliant host

Reviewed By JJ O

The rooms at Chistophe Cabanas are clean, bright and spacious. They are very quiet and comfortable and a great place to relax after touring around Easter Island. Breakfast was good with ham, cheese, bread, orange and coffee. It set us up nicely for the day. Christophe is a wonderful host. He picked us up from the airport and gave us a quick drive around Hanga Roa to help us get our bearings. He recommended some places for lunch and dinner. Before we arrived Christophe was very responsive and helped us hire bikes for our first day to help us make the most of our time on the island. Overall, he was an excellent host! We liked the location because it was a little out of town and therefore very quiet. It was also close to start of the trail for the walk / hike up to Orongo. It meant we had to walk in and out of town which we didn't mind but it's worth taking a flashlight when walking back along the road. I would highly recommend staying at Christophe Cabanas if visiting Easter Island.

We were met and transferred from Mataveri Airport to Hareswiss Bungalows where we were warmly welcomed with a plate of sliced meats and cheeses, and a bottle of Chilean wine by our lovely host, Tiare. She brought us Continental breakfast each morning, and chatted several times every day, friendly without being at all intrusive. We spent five relaxing days before joining our cruise, walking in the lush gardens and driving around the island and getting to know this fascinating place and meeting the mighty Moai! Each evening we would enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles, bought from a nearby shop, on our balcony overlooking the gardens and down to the sea - perfecto! The property is close to town and easy to find after a day of exploring. It was home, with a real family feel. Unfortunately we did not meet Tiare's husband Peter as he was in hospital in Santiago. The room is airy and spacious and immaculately clean and comfortable, and the kitchenette meant we could prepare light meals if we wanted. A perfect place to relax and unwind.

Beautiful garden with flowers everywhere, filtered rain water, great views, island history, restaurant recommendations.... Everyone is so nice and helpful. A lot of thought has gone into making the guests have a lovely time. Also, it is an excellent location! Close to restaurants, shops, and around the corner from the ocean and great beach/swimming area. Highly recommend for exploring and experiencing the island!

Bartender fingers in glasses

Reviewed By Maria C

Careful with the hygiene of the bar, I walked up to order 3 beers and the bartender promptly stuck his fingers in all three glasses in order to grab from fridge. He then presented them to me and I couldn't accept. Certainly in the time of a pandemic this practice should not be happening. Makes me wonder what is happening in the kitchen?

A gem on the island

I was there for three nights and I really enjoyed my stay there. The hotel is very nice, clean and well-looked after. Rooms have got hot water, fans and wifi connection. There are hot coffee and tea available all day and breakfast on the patio was just perfect to kick off the day. The hotel is in a very convenient location, with some restaurants in walking distance and an amazing sunset spot!! Paul, the owner of the hotel, is a very helpful and friendly guy. He has been on the island since when he joined the first archeological works on the moais with professor Mulloy and he’s a great source of stories and information behind them. He gives enjoyable tours and can help you with anything you might need to know on the island. He can also provide you with the park pass to avoid the queue at the airport and car rental. I hope I’ll be able to visit him again in the future!!

Hotel staff very pleasant and helpful with restaurant resrvations and recommendations. Breakfast has all the regulars and the freshly cooked omelettes to order delicious.
