Our group of five stumbled upon this restaurant on our way to the Demjeki Termal up the hill from Salt Hill (which was not yet open on April 18th, 2013). Serendipitous indeed. Every savory bite was delicious, true Hungarian cuisine, served with a smile and at reasonable prices. Yum.

We had to wait a lot, there wasn't the food I chose from the menu, the staff didn't pay attention to the guests, neither the food. There were other guests also, who didn't get what they ordered. Big disappointment, because I just wanted to eat a good strudel. Finally only my family ate scones, because there wasn't any strudel baked, but even the scones, for wich we waited for HALF AN HOUR, were raw and chewy. The prices are really high compared to the quality of the food and the service we got. We got a cup of coffe for free for the long waiting.

A Sástó Étterem a Mátra szivében 500 méterre a tengerszint felett helyezkedik el. A közelben van bobpálya /1000m/, kilátó/300m/, turista utak, melyeken bejárhatják az egész Mátrát. Mellettünk van a Sástó kemping és a Sástói Nagyrét főzőhelyekkel. Március közepétől tartunk nyitva és várjuk kedves vendégeinket. Az étterem 2014 óta működik és reméljük, hogy aki visszatér jó emlékkel teszi, aki most jár itt először az visszajön legközelebb is. Különböző kérésekkel találkozunk melyeket igyekszünk teljesíteni. Ilyen a gyerekek számára a kis adag étel, egyedi vagy étlapon nem szereplő ételek melyeket a rendelkezésre álló alapanyagokból igény szerint elkészítünk. Az étterem egyedi megrendeléseket is fogad, helyet tudunk biztosítani családi összejöveteleknek, csoportos étkezéseknek, melyekhez egy nyitott és zárt terasz is rendelkezésükre áll . The Tető Étterem Kékestető is a self service restaurant that offers Hungarian snacks, as well as burgers. When we were there, it looked a little bit deserted and run down, but there's nothing to really complain about. You get what you pay for.

Before we attended the segway tour, we had our lunch here. I tried the roast duck, which only 4 Euro , OMG, so good price. The taste was okay, much better than the street food, and you can even have the lunch or dinner in the small garden. Nice place you can try in Matrafured .

A family going out to the Mátra and Kékes. The available restaurants nearby in the Mátra didn't meet our expectations as wanted to eat something really good. Tripadvisor offered it no. 1 in Gyöngyös and must admit we were satisfied. Polite staff and nice atmosphere and interior design. The food was really good. We had fish as an appetizer and beef soup. All are fine gourmet style. Also recommend to give a try to the home-made pasta. They have it gluten-free also.

Staff is really friendly and helpful. Place is quite popular among locals, but it's usually possible to get a table.
Located partly above ground and partly in the basement, the latter decorated with a mixture of Hungarian folk and steampunk style.
Food choices are the classic traditional Hungarian dishes, and they sometimes have daily specials made from fresh game or forest mushrooms.

Gyöngyös is about 80 kilometers from Budapest on motorway M3. I hope that local citizens will forgive me: Gyöngyös is not a really interesting city. You will cross the city when you travel to Mátra "mountain" that has the highest peak of Hungary with its 1015 meters. The restaurant is a small place with a great heart. It is unbelievable to me that it has an Italian chef. He speaks a mixture of Italian, English and Hungarian with his Hungarian colleagues. This was our first visit in the restaurant. One can realize after one minute that he and most of his staff pay attention to every details that can make the food and the place enjoyable. We ateminestrone soup, a pizza with mushroom and a panzerotti Sergio. The staff is great, the food is very delicious and a very good value for your money. Give it a try!
