Hotel Meisser

Our favorite place to stay

We have been here several times and we really enjoy this place- not only for its fabulous location and the views, but the hotel itself is very thoughtfully done, set up for enjoying a quiet weekend, with good food and pleasant walks (or other activities if that's your thing-- yoga, massage, etc are all available). The staff are kind, friendly and unobtrusive. We will be back again!

Meisser Romantica

Great location and friendly welcome

Reviewed By leighbcd2014

We liked the hotel, however for the price I would have expected at least some hand soap in the bathroom. The bathroom is a soap/shampoo free-zone, be sure to bring your own. Also on Monday, there is only one restaurant open in the village in the summer so you will need to reserve. But we loved everything else about the hotel, the service was great, the beds were comfy and Guarda itself is very special

Meisser Lodge

Experience a Several Hundred Year Old Swiss Village

Reviewed By C_and_MH

If you are interested in going back in time, say the 16 or 17 hundreds you are in luck in Guarda. This tiny village or “dorf” in German has about 200 inhabitants living in several dozen buildings, which date back several hundred years. Many of them appear to be abandoned, but that doesn’t take away the village charm. At the very end of the main road you will find the Lodge. The hotel owns a few properties in town, but to our surprise the Lodge was the only one with a room available. The staff greeted us well enough at the main reception. While our room came with dinner, we inquired about eating one night in the main building which appears a little more upscale. Apparently it was also sold out - this could be due to COVID-19 and social distancing rules. Anyway, we received our keys and walked to the lodge a few minutes away. It would have been nice to have been driven up to the lodge with a golf cart, due to the cobble stone streets, but it wasn’t offered, though we did spot one. The Lodge is less impressive than the main building. It’s more traditional with some recent alpine chic upgrades. When we arrived dinner was closing at 20:00 so we quickly were seated as we arrived late. Again, due to social distancing we were seated near the kitchen and coffee machine and it was assigned to us for the length of our stay, which was disappointing. I must say that the food was excellent, which says a lot considering we are really in the middle of nowhere. Lachs was fresh as were vegetables. The wine list was also reasonably priced and it included a mix of Swiss gems and France, Spain and New World options. Eventually we made it to our room. It was rather small a mix of light woods and felt. It was okay, but only gripe is the shower. The piece of glass to keep the water from soaking the floor was too short and I could barely wet myself without water going everywhere. A simple shower curtain would have been preferred. MTB bikes are available for free and wifi was reasonably fast. The only other nit is the parking area. In order to park one needs to navigate a very narrow space between two historic buildings and by the number of scuff marks on the wall not everyone is so lucky to make it through, including a Range Rover we saw in the parking lot. So wide vehicles need not try. My advice set expectations in the middle and then they will be upgraded by the views alone.
