Loser Alm

The Loserhütte offers unparalleled views across Altaussee and the Dachstein massif beyond, and is well placed for hikers, skiers and cyclists throughout the year. The food is excellent, with a wide range to choose from. Unfortunately, the service provided by the waiting staff one night in July were unfriendly and unenthusiastic, which really lets this otherwise fantastic restaurant down.

Knoedl Alm

What can you expect to get on a high alpine pasture? Bacon and bread, perhaps? Homemade cheese and a glass of milk? Not far off, in general. But at the Knödl Alm in the lake district of Salzburg, you get far more besides.

On Saturday the 3e of May we visited the Knödl Alm again. This time with 9 people... As usefull, very friendly personal. The Grill Haxe is delicious. So not leave without trying the ice variation. I was very suprised on some of the negative reactions. It is a very small authentic restaurant, you always need to make Reservations. If you are coming without having one, you should not blame the restaurant owner......

This place has a Terrace beside the lake for the summer and is gear very much for outdoors though we did spot a few tables inside but it looked small inside.
It is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
The menu is very much geared to local fish or meat.
We both had Char (grilled fillet and pan fried whole fish) and a salad to share.
The fish was lovely.

Gasthof Zlaimwiesn

Reviewed By CazMoon - Reigate, United Kingdom

We spent a week in Grundlsee this year. We had eaten at the obvious places that are easily found and I did a quick check of Grundlsee.at to see what other places we could walk to for dinner.
I found the Zlaimwiesn was only about 10 mins walk from our accommodation (Club Mondi) so we decided to try it. And we went back a 2nd time.
Location: On the South West of the Lake. There is a small ski slope with the top of its tow visible and this place lies at the bottom of the slope. From Club Mondi, go through the reception area and out the back entrance, so away from the car park and this leads up to a T junction. Turn left, walk up a gentle slope with a large meadow on the right. Take the 2nd on the right which is after the meadow and in the trees and this leads to Zlaimwiesn.
I think on our 2 visits that we were the only tourists, it seemed a popular place with locals. There are 2 areas for eating, the new area which is smarter and non smoking and the main, older area where there is smoking.
On our first visit, we had the standard menu. It is big on schnitzels, both pork and Turkey. My partner had the best schnitzel that he has ever tasted. We heard them preparing it fresh and it was pork fillet with a layer of ham, mushroom and cheese, all wrapped in breadcrumbs, a real meal in itself and I had a Turkey one which was a lovely large piece of white meat. I think the main courses were about 10 euros each.
On our 2nd visit it was PIZZA night (Monday & Friday). Even if you do not know German, the Pizzas have all the usual names so you can guess what is in them. We had a calazone and hawaii. These were as good as anything we get back home and were less than 8 euros each.
I am not sure if they had menus in anything except German or spoke more than German, so I think a basic menu vocab would be usefull if you venture here.
It would be a good place to take the kids to for pizza and if you wanted something more traditional.

Restaurant SEEBLICK

Head chef, Stefan Haas, has made himself a name with his innovative interpretation of classic dishes. The new concept of the Seeblick Restaurant takes us back a step. Tradition not innovation is the motto! The menu card includes old favourites such as the original Viennese escalope – „Wiener Schnitzel“, braised beef – „Tafelspitz“ and „Schlutzkrapfen“ – pasta pockets filled with spinach and cheese. To round the meal off there is regionally sourced gingerbread parfait and a sweet soufflé „Salzburger Nockerln“. Freshly prepared quality produce, largely locally-sourced is an integral part if Stefan Haas‘ quality credo. As the name „Seeblick“ suggests, you can enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Grundlsee and the impressive surrounding Mountains while dining. The Seeblick Restaurant is open daily.

Gorgeous Terrace view overlooking the entire lake. Attentive, professional and friendly service. However: while food was generally good, the chef still seems to be trying to find his style. Right now, the combination of local and Spanish elements is not convincing; also contains too much chichi that detracts from original recipes: best example the Salzburger Nockerl. To be noted: presence of large groups of Chinese tourists.

The setting on the river Traun makes this restaurant perfect for an outdoor dinning experience in the summer. The food is high quality and well portioned. My wife and I enjoyed this place so much we came back twice. I loved the mushroom risotto with Steak and the seafood pasta my wife had was very good. The Apple Strudel for desert was also very well made and tasty.

This used to be the "Kaisers'" patisserie and lives very much on past laurels. Visited some 20 years ago (early 1990's) and am disappointed with the drop in standards. Had been to "Zauner" in Bad Ischl the day before and was expecting similar standard. NOT SO. Lewandowsky will nolonger be a 'must' on my itinerary.

Zimitzalm

Reviewed By Tairua - Kaarst

This restaurant is like from a hobbit movie. The setting is just magical. It takes you about 15 mins of easy walk to a small lake where the restaurant is set. Small inside abd lot of seats outside. Basic menu - good soups, breads and freshly smoked fish. It is not cheap (soups around 6 Eur and smoked fish 55 eur per kg) but the soups are filling and fish is delicious. Service was very nice and was very nice to our daughter. Ask for the fish soup! It's not on the menu but they usually have it. It's delicious!
