The Water's Edge

Reviewed By Margaret B - Belfast, United Kingdom

VERY impressed by the standard of fine dining at the Waters' Edge restaurant in the Redcastle Hotel. I had read that the head chef had worked in several Michelin starred restaurants and that was very evident from the quality of the food, the wonderful flavours and the fine presentation.
The restaurant itself is situated overlooking the sea so one can watch the waves crashing below...fabulous!!!
The staff were attentive and knew the menu. Two courses available for €29.95 which turned out to be very reasonable indeed as this really was top notch dining. I ordered the selection of Irish cheeses ( €4 ) which was the best value cheese board ever.. four of us shared it and all had enough!
Only minor complaint that a decaffeinated coffee to complete the meal is just a sachet of Nescafé decaf.....with the quality and value of the meal it should be only a small step to have a selection of decent coffees available.
Well done to all. Excellent meal.

Kealys Seafood Bar

Reviewed By M0urneMan - Newcastle, Co. Down

The menus were confusing, and the early bird menu didn't really represent good value for money. €22 for 2 courses for adults and €8 for children is simply too over priced for what we actually got. The chowder starter was OK, but clearly some cheap fish ends were dumped in, as some of the bits of salmon in it were not pleasant (skin/fatty). The main course breaded fish dish was lovely and generous but everyone's chips were soggy and tasted poor, and the side salad was an unimaginative afterthought of mixed leaves with a squirt of vinaigrette. The right price for this fare would have been c. €15 for adults and c. €5 for kids.

Carey's Fish Shop

Very small and local fish and chip restaurant using fish from Greencastle harbour. Excellent local fish and ice cream. Table outside overlooking the sea, Seating inside or take away.

Food was absolutely disappointing. Chips were over cooked, probably cooked more than twice to be honest! And the chicken bites were horrendous. When we asked for some sauce as a side, we were told that only sweet chilli and taco were available. The service was extremely fast and I think this was mostly to do with the fact that the food was being reheated from a previous order. Will never be back. Really disappointed.

A party of 6 we ate here 2 nights in a row. The food, staff, atmosphere and craic are second to none. I have visited here previously on trips to Moville and look forward to returning again.

My wife and I ate here after we visited Malin Head. The interior decor and exterior design of this restaurant are very interesting. Chucky on a chopper above the entrance is strange, but amusing. The servers were friendly and the food was delicious. I hope to visit again.

Biddy's Takeaway

Reviewed By marjorja - Oslo, Norway

I've visited this place a dozen times in the last 3 years and noticed that the quality of food depends on a day and who's behind the counter. I'd avoid when it looks busy. Also, my order has been messed up a few times now and it always happens when I order a burger with salad and cheese - there's ALWAYS cheese missing for some reason, even when I repeat it twice over the phone. I find it so odd and funny in a way, but still would prefer my burger with cheese, so sort it out please .

The Boathouse Bar Restaurant

Location, Location, Location….. The vision for ‘The Boathouse’ emerged quite simply out of the very views currently enjoyed from its windows. The ever-changing Lough Foyle never ceases to inspire and captivate the onlooker. How better to make use of such a setting, than to establish an eatery right on its shores..? When it comes to food, our philosophy is simple – Quality, fresh ingredients. When in season and at their best, these, transformed into a tasty meal is one of life’s great pleasures. We want our customers to celebrate the joys of eating and sharing good food, in a relaxed laid-back surrounding.

Visited recently having heard good reviews for the most part I never judge until I try myself. The service was great from start to finish. We were greeted with a friendly smile and taken to our table and drinks arrived promptly! We all order starters and mains and follower with dessert! I had the chicken supreme it was cooked well but there was just something missing it was plain and simple it just needed a little something extra to get the 5*. I think the menu needs tweaked a bit change it up add a few more choices! In saying that I'll be back as I said it was really good but there's another level there to be achieved! Keep up the good work, you will get there!

Norrie's Coffee Shop

Reviewed By AvidIrishReader - Dublin, Ireland

This is a nice wee spot in Moville. The Wife and I have dined here three times since it opened. Staff are attentive and the food is excellent. All the desserts/cakes are home baked by the family that run the business.
Sandwiches, salads and ciabattas are all freshly prepared, with a mixture of family (they grow their own vegetables), local and bought-in ingredients. There's a good selection of tea and coffees available too.
The only negative for the customer is that it can be very busy, meaning a seat can be hard to come by. A nice complaint, I suppose.
Well worth a visit before/after walking the shore path.
