Founded on the San Antonio River, it is the county seat of Goliad County. It is part of the Victoria, Texas, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Based on the many good reviews we ate lunch here today. We were not disappointed. My wife had the half sandwich and I had whole, both with the signature jalapeño soup. The sandwiches were good but not out of the ordinary. The soup was spectacular. When we get home we are going to try to duplicate it.
The staff was fun and friendly and above all else the place was CLEAN. By the time we left all the tables were occupied. I almost forgot to mention the raspberry iced tea, I had 3 glasses. Nice place.

Breakfast offerings included eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, toast, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and coffee from Arabica beans. Lunch is soup and sandwiches and combinations of the two. Bakery items are pies, cakes, and cookies.

Mattie's is located next to the courthouse. They specialize in cookies and pies it seems. They were serving a Sunday Brunch when I visited and there were a couple of tables inside and several outside for dining. The cookies were good and the people were friendly.

We stopped in for ice cream and we were disappointed with the service and the cleanliness of the restaurant. The management really needs to keep the place cleaner and do some training with the young staff. Ice cream was great. Fairly typical Dairy Queen.

We'd been recommended this place by someone we met in Goliad earlier in the day, and she was right. This place was awesome. The decor is a trip-- reminded me of one of those places my parents used to take us to in the 70's when we were on our summer road trips. The wood paneling, the dark tables and heavy furniture and vintage lighting fixtures.... definitely a time warp. but in a good, nostalgic way!
Everything on the menu looked so amazing that we just told our cutie-pie waiter to surprise us. (Well, the women did. The men were a little more cautious with their selections!) We were pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness he brought out from the kitchen! When the waiter tells you that their chicken is delicious, BELIEVE HIM. OMG it was so good. Like nothing I've ever had before. The enchiladas verdes were very good too. My hub said that the cheese enchiladas were tasty too. My daughter had a chicken fried chicken thing that I tasted and it was very good. By the time we were finished with our meal, we needed a stretcher to get us out to the car we were so full! This was truly one of the best meals I've had in a VERY long time. If you're in Goliad and you're hungry for dinner, this is the place to go.

While visiting the Goliad Mission the place where Fanian's men on the way to the Alamo were massacred, after the tour. We stopped in at the Empresario. There was a group of at least 25 people and I had the best chicken fried steak in a long time. I checked out everyone else's food and it all looked superb for this restaurant. Visited Goliad on a Thursday afternoon in January. Got to the Square around 3:00 and found just this one restaurant open. Perfect! Friendly staff, old-timey decor, and great food. I had a Swiss-cheeseburger with onion rings. Burger was delicious and the bun was awesome! My wife had the pulled pork and declared it to be awesome. Burger and pork sandwiches were huge. Grandson had the mini-corn dogs with fries and said they were the best ever. Others had variety of food and craft beers. All were satisfied with taste and amount. Shirley was a super friendly and helpful hostess/server. Will eat there again the next time in Goliad.

We stopped at this restaurant on 12/26/16 in the afternoon. The waitress brought us menus and then never came back. She waited on everyone who came in after us and was slowly doing other things in the restaurant. It appeared that we were only going to get service in this place if we were a local that they personally knew so we got up and left after waiting 20 minutes.

Small towns don't often offer a variety of cuisines so it is always welcome to find an alternative to fast food. Bluhm's Pizza has been open in Goliad for only a few months but they offer a variety of Italian dishes in addition to pizza. Offering take out as well as dine in services the restaurant is bright and welcoming and the waitstaff friendly and helpful. Their pizza is delicious, fresh and cheesy with a very nice crust. They also have calzones, spaghetti, ravioli and Alfredo dishes. They have a few beers on tap, a couple of the old favorites as well as some craft beers from the local brewery. A very nice variety for a small town. Goliad is unusually fortunate in having several good restaurants, Bluhm's is a great addition to the mix.

Wanda used to own a restaurant where the Agave is now but had to close due to the difficulty in keeping it staffed. She has opened in a much smaller venue down the street at 352 Pearl right across the street from the Lowes grocery store next to her husbands Liquor store. The food is delicious and well prepared, it is obvious they put their money into the kitchen and not so much into the dining area. Don't let the spartan furnishings in the dining area put you off, the food is very good, the kitchen clean and modern. They have a drive up window for to go orders. They open at 6:00 am and do a brisk breakfast business. Wanda's is very popular with the locals and you can become a regular with only a few visits. Beer and wine are available at the liquor store immediately adjacent to the restaurant.

I branched overhere on my way to Houston and ordered Monterey Melt with cold drink and onion rings. Very nicely done and I enjoyed every bit of it. I will encourage anyone to visit them.

We tried the Agave Jalisco Restaurant on a week night. Last year this place had a different name but the food was good.
We were delighted with the quality of the food, the very generous servings, the 5 to 10 dollar price range for most items, and the cleanliness of the establishment.
We will definitely visit there again soon.
