A great family run hotel

Reviewed By _steph91986

A gem of a hotel in Gjirokaster. This hotel is set conveniently located above the old city. The rooms are very clean and quite large. Decor is done in a vintage style which gives a lot of character. The family that runs this hotel is so sweet and helpful. The main highlight of the hotel was the breakfast. They hand made even the jam and the fried dough. So delicious! Price was excellent value for the quality. Of note, if driving, please do not follow Google maps. The directions took us up a VERY steep and narrow street, where our car got stuck. The hotel is aware of Google maps giving incorrect instructions. Please reach out to hotel if driving to get correct directions to avoid narrow roads (there is a main road that goes to the hotel). There is ample parking outside of the hotel.

It is hard to write a glowing review of Hotel Old Bazaar 1790 that isn’t redundant. But the truth is …..what has been documented in previous reviews are ALL true. The rooms and common areas were very clean with architectural details throughout that made it really special. A great breakfast was served on a lovely terrace overlooking the city. The hotel is in the perfect spot, close to restaurants and shopping .Everything is walkable. Now for what makes Hotel Old Bazaar 1790 excel from other hotel establishments is the warm hospitality and genuine friendless of Tani ( aka Dritan) and Anila (aka Anna). My husband and I have traveled throughout the years to many different global locations, stayed at all different kinds of establishments and had service range from mediocre to excellent. That said, NO ONE comes close to the level of hospitality provided by Tani, Anna and the woman serving breakfast( sorry I do not know her name). Tani was so proactive, asking if we were satisfied with the hotel and its services, could anything be done differently to make us more comfortable and ended our communication always saying, “Thank you for staying with us.” Without a doubt, Tani and Anna take hospitality to a new level by any measure. I am confident anyone who stays at Hotel Old Bazaar 1790 will be as happy and satisfied as my husband and me. Thank you everyone for all of your help. Read less

Very tight rooms

Yes this hotel is ideal for one night to explore the old city centre, but room and bathroom are very tight. In the bathroom you struggle to close the bathroom door. Never take a room on the 4th floor, specially if you are long. Ceilings there are even tighter and at peak times there is not enough water preassure to reach the top floor.

Not only are the rooms beautiful, clean, and offer great views, but the staff is exceptionally accommodating and friendly. We literally got stuck on an impassable street on our drive up the narrow streets to the hotel. We called and described where we were. Francesca, the receptionist, met us on foot and drove our car along a cleared route to the hotel. She also drove us back down the next day, and refused to accept a tip. The breakfast that was included was delicious, and our eggs were made to order. We will definitely stay here again on a future return trip.

Fantastic experience at Hotel Fantasy!

Reviewed By MidAgedFart

People must be insane to rate this only 4 stars! This was a 5 star experience for my entire family. The view is amazing, it’s perfectly located next to the old town, the food was very good, great assortment of drinks, presented very nicely I might add, an attentive staff, and very nice and clean rooms. Yes, it’s tough to drive to there, but you should expect that it will be challenging. Look for a “Hotel Fantasy” and ignore if your GPS says to make a left over the center divider in the road, it’s wrong.

The rooms were spacious and clean. The property has onsite parking and is near the historic centre but far enough not to be bothered by the noise. The host, Maradona, was absolutely fantastic and one of the most helpfully hosts I've met on my trips. Since it can be difficult to psrk in the historic centre, Maradona will take you there and pick you up whenever you need. He also seems to know everyone in town, and he'll give you recommendations for places to visit and for restaurants if you need. Before we checked out, Maradona also gave us some tips for our onward journey. Really grateful as wouldn't have visited the Blue Eye otherwise.
